Next Major Windows OS In Three Years?

Will XP be around in 2009 / 2010? It eould nosurprise me if there were lots of people staying with XP at least until next yesr. After that then people might just think to wait for Vienna and not go with Vista at all.

If Microsoft gets Vienna right and there are plenty of drivers and are all 64 bit, I reckon Vista will have been a bit of a flop.

Fixed.

I will now take your post seriously.

Vista is great, there's nothing wrong with vista atm. Apart from 3rd part drivers. The speed of internet, hdd space and media changes (HD) etc). Means will need a new os in 3 years time. Although I expect it'll be delayed.

I don't know what's so hilarious about them releasing another OS?

Because they have so many things to fix, they still haven't fixed drm yet after the crack was released months ago, it's quite funny that teams of professionals working around the clock can't beat one man on his home pc, they couldn't even sue him because they couldn't trace him. :p

Yeah but they aren't releasing it now, they're planning to do so in 3 years.

Vista will be very good by then. Just in the exact same way when XP first came out, it had compatibility issues, annoying bugs and limited driver support. 3 years on and it was the most popular Windows OS.

When they say "subscription-based", do they mean like Norton Anti-Virus whereby you pay say £20 per year to have your virus definitions kept up-to-date?

If so that sounds terrible as you'll be forever paying as well as no doubt an initial outlay. No doubt the crackers will find a way round it though

Whoa whoa, don't let logic get in the way of his cool anti-microsoft rant.

microsoft does make millions though, i find it annoying that they want subscribtions for using parts/addons of an operating system, it totally depends what they want to charge us for though i guess

which other operating systems have you tried? :D and what didn't you like about them?

Nothing wrong with apple, linux ect as a home os.

However it doesn't give companies the flexibility, compatibility and cost effectiveness as Windows.

Windows, is all one nice file format, that will run anywhere in the world on everyone elses system, you can use legacy equipment, you can buy equipment from anywhere, rather than paying for an over priced apple box (unless your doing graphics). etc etc etc.

The biggest thing with windows is
ease of use for employees
compatibility world wide with other companies
Compatibility and integration of thousands off diffrent machines.

this then filters down to home users, which can roughly be split into 3 groups

1) casual user who might do some work at home, they already know windows so why learn something else and worry about file formats and compatibility.
2) Gamers, windows is the only option there
3) computer enthusiasts, which i would says still favourers windows but also user various Linux distros and os x

That's old news, they are releasing 'aight13' by 2012 which is eight spelt with an 'a', pronounced 'ite with 13 at the end - no one knows what the number yet means

they've already started on it. You can download emails and listen to music and the same time, because it's dual core optimized and it's going to be the most secure and fastest Windows ever.

There is a leaked screenshots here.
