Next workhorse, let's not make it a Passat

Im in a similar position at the mo, the choice is rather limited if you want something exciting:( Mondeo is packed with gadgets, but it just looks dull, the Mazda 6 drives well, but is filled with cheap plastics, the BMW has the best engine, but imo the rest of the car doesnt live up to the expectations, you really need a well specced one, which then jacks up the tax liability.

I have been in a Passat CC as a passenger and I would say this.

- Awful seats that look lovely but are unsupportive and too short under the leg.
- Quiet and relaxed on the motorway with a nice smooth ride
- It looks like a cheap car trying to be and expensive one and to my eyes fails
- Feels big inside
- Quite a nice interior from what I can remember
- It was a diesel and was returning 52mpg when I was in it

I never drove it so I can't comment on that bit but it seems like an OK car to me and my friend loves it though he is not a petrolhead he has had a couple of 911's, M5's, M3's and other such things and has now married on gone sensible.

It's just a tool of the trade come family hack to me, but on the odd occasion when perhaps I'm driving back to the city from say....the derbyshire dales, well, I just might fancy pasting the **** out of it and having something resembling fun.

I can't do this in a Passat.

Forrester is a bit old man, and I'm 37, so it'd be the Legacy if it was a Subaru.

Who cares if its a bit old man. Down here i would say its a mums car but its a great car anyway.
Id have one and not give a poop about what people think.:)

Is the Passhat really that bad? ive been offerred an all singing all dancing 170 tdi for near enough **** all a month...ive havent driven the latest iteration, hence the question.

nah, imo they're not as bad as all that. Sure there are better cars, but the stick they get here is slightly unjustified imo (owned a 57plate for 6 months)

Mine has wind up windows at the rear, I think that sets the scene quite nicely.

On a cruise - it's okay, but if you're after any sort of character you can forget it. It also has roughly the same amount of understeer as a plastic wheeled go cart.
