Nexus 5 2015 refresh

Straight from todays GSMArena review

Again here in the technobuffalo review...6m40s onwards

I could quote more reviews.

The 805 in my Nexus 6 can get hot at times, just like all SoC's. If it doesn't cause throttling to the point of poor performance in day to day use...who cares?

I'll reserve final judgment till some more in depth reviews but for now I maintain while the SD810 isn't an ideal SoC, its ok and serviceable.

So your quote actually says it gets hot and you use this as an example of it not getting hot?

I was, to be fair, talking about actual user reviews, where they all suggest they do get hot.

One of the reasons I didn't go for the M9 was because of the heating issue. Or the throttling down to keep the heat down. If it can't work full tilt, then it's not designed right IMO. Which is why I'm still looking.

I'll wait for some user reviews of the N5 before considering purchasing one, but really liking the look of the Moto Play X. I've been a Samsung Galaxy fan now for several years, and would have got a S6 but for 2 reasons. No microSD, and no changeable battery. Both killers for me.

I made the mistake of thinking you meant overheating instead of getting hot.

At the end of the day no SoC will be able to run at full tilt for very long. Max frequency is there for burst performance not sustained.

Won't happen, sorry. What you have described is the 'perfect' phone, and we all should have learnt by now is that phone manufacturers are colluding and conspiring to ensure the perfect phone will never be built to keep us yearning for more.

:p

:( :p

The LG one will be N5 2013 size and the lower end model. The Huawei will be bigger with all the bells and whistles, and it will be hot.

Lower end for me then. Though I haven't tried living with a larger phone but I can forsee it being less comfortable to use. The N5 at least can be used easily one handed.

Please don't let it be huge... Please don't let it be huge... Please don't let it be huge... Please don't let it be huge... Please don't let it be huge... Please don't let it be huge...

I really do not want a big phone. I want the same Nexus 5, but with a better camera and better battery. That's all!

I' hoping no bigger than 5.2". The G2 I'm currently using is the perfect size IMO.

Assuming the same sized 5" display I assume it will have to be a bit bigger to incorporate the front-facing speakers. The Nexus 5 2013 had a rather petite forehead and chin, so it's going to be a little taller at least.

Alleged Nexus 5 2015 specs taken from a July Protoype
2K 5.2" screen
Snapdragon 808
3GB Ram LPDDR3
13MP Camera IMX278 w/ Laser Auto Focus & OIS found in G4. (Allegedly takes better pics than the Huawei Nexus)

As probably most of you know by now, word on the street is that Google will release not one but two Nexus smartphones this year. One of them will allegedly be manufactured by LG (the 2015 edition of the Nexus 5) while the other is in the works in Huawei’s camp (the 2015 Nexus 6 edition).

A lot of sources have independently talked about the 2 Nexuses, and so many leaks have surfaced that almost everybody is convinced that they are real (yes, us included).

During this past week, it seemed like the Huawei made Nexus is the media darling, partly because of the avalanche of leaked renders and hands-on images that have surfaced. However, tonight, the LG Nexus 5 makes a comeback.

Take a look below and join us for the entire story.

What you’re looking at allegedly are the main hardware specs used by the LG Nexus 5 prototypes. Before delving right into it, we should mention that this leak comes from the same source that has recently provided Geekbench results for a lot of next gen mobile chipsets. If this makes it a reliable source … everyone can judge for himself.

Ok, with that out of the way, the above leak claims that the July prototypes of LG Nexus 5 were powered by a Snapdragon 808 SoC and featuring a 5.2-inch 2K display, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a 13MP IMX278 Sony sensor.

The leak also mentions that the new Nexus 5 features (or at least the July prototypes did) the same OIS tech that can be found in LG’s G4, laser focus, and that it takes better pics than Huawei’s Nexus. It is also claimed that it will feature a fingerprint recognition module, which was pretty much already established.

Would you be interested in an LG-made Nexus 5 with the above configuration?

I hope the battery capacity is enough for that 2K screen...

:D

I was tempted to buy a note 4 to try and see how I'd get on with a large phone. Maybe it's not that bad?

I guess I'm just used to the N5 and what it offers.

Personally I don't think the bigger phones feel that bad in my hand. When I sit down and have my S3 in my pocket however, I wouldn't really want extra 1" of phone in there.

So the rumoured LG G4 Pro is the next Nexus now? Disappointed by the Note 5 not to mention Edge Plus, but at a point now where I can't even come back to as "regular" sized phone heh

2K at 5.2" is such an overkill if it's an RGB stripe screen.

I see why the do it if it's an OLED Pentile, but even then it's still a tad overkill.

+1

I don't get the recent 1440p craze. It's totally unnecessary on a phone and does nothing but put more strain on the GPU/CPU/battery for very little visual benefit. 1080p is more than enough on a 5" screen IMO.

I'm still really keen on the Nexus 5 as I still think it's the perfect size for a phone and the specs are also sounding pretty good from the rumours.

What's even more silly is Samsung is developing 11K displays for mobile devices which apparently gives them a "3D" effect. What sort of GPUs will we need to power those :o?

Really hoping the lower LG model will have a reasonable battery size, N4 and N5 was ok but I felt their battery lives could have been better.
