*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Nexus 7 was a £199 device on launch and I don't expect the second generation to be any cheaper.

What I've read before might be just rumours, but wasn't the low price point of Nexus 7 possible only due to Nvidia discounting Tegra 3 in bulk numbers? Take any other SOC and the costs would go up by a considerable amount.

Too bad Nexus 7 has such poor I/O performance.

IIRC the 8GB base model was £159 on launch with a £10 Play store voucher included, so that works out at £150. I'm pretty certain the base model for gen 2 will be similar, whether that is 8GB or 16GB who knows.

Also, the T3 had been in products for quite a while until the N7 came along. It was in the Transformer Prime and I think that was released in 2011, so the technology wasn't blazing by the time of the N7 release, hence it was affordable for such a low cost device.

Compare this to the T4 which I think is only just coming off the assembly line now, it is certainly not is any commercial products at the moment AFAIK. It looks like a beast of a chipset but sadly too expensive for something as low cost as the new N7.

I think you are judging the original N7 too harshly. I have had one since launch and its been an excellent device for what I paid for it. With a decent ROM and kernel it really flies!

whos making it? Asus again?

I hope so!

I've had a Nexus 7 for many moons too. It's alright, but not without its quirks and flaws. It could be a great Android gaming device, but it sadly isn't.

It's a lot slower in most flashy games than my Nexus 4. I'm running PA with M-Kernel for reference.

I blame the Tegra 3 for that, it's a pretty pants SoC. Moving to Snapdragon should allow the Nexus 7 to truly shine for those that demand good performance.

Hoping for 5GHz wifi here seems current one doesn't support it and things are pretty congested where I live. Got a new dual band router coming soon. Love my 32GB and hope they keep it's form factor identical. Don't want to have to buy a new car dock, docking station and case really.

That's what lets down the current Nexus 7. Tegra 3 is pants and I can't stand it when my Nexus 7 grinds to a halt, stutters and lags its way even through the basics of tasks. I for one can't wait to get rid of my Nexus 7 and jump on a new one when its released.

Mine only does this when it hasn't got much free storage space. Do you have more than a couple of Gb free?

I've got over 10.09Gb free and it's still laggy as hell. This is after performing a factory reset, am not impressed

I can't wait to ditch the N7 and go for the new one when it's available

Why would people want a 3g or 4g Tablet with you can attach with WiFi Hot spot from a mobile phone !
As most mobile contracts have decent data allowance.

I was hoping for a Snapdragon 600 SoC but the S4 is pretty fast itself, would bring it in line with the Nexus 4. Hopefully it will be fine powering that higher display resolution though. Wireless charging seems pretty interesting as well... makes me wonder how big the "official" charger would be though :p.
