Nexus 9 or Nvidia Shield

Hi all, got some birthday money to spend. Cant decide between the Nexus 9 or Shield? I do game, watch plenty of videos and the general surfing. £50 between the two of them, is there a best choice? Any help thanks

I had a very similar thread here

I have to say I'm leaning towards the Shield - just far too many reports around that the Nexus 9 is fantastic in benchmarks but far less appealing in real world usage with some horrendous tales of lag!

Personally though I like the aspect ratio on the Shield as 90% of my use is for watching videos streamed off my NAS! (well that and the inclusion of a micro SD card slot!)

Yes read that cheers. Seem both are good. Screen size better on the Nexus but the expandable memory a big plus on the Sheild. Will mull it overe today and pull the trigger on one later. Either are going to be better than my Hudl2.

I'd skip the Nexus 9. Mine just got returned after a couple of months.

Started lagging like crazy, and would not charge properly some of the time.

My Moto G was faster! Even after a factory reset.

Used the Nexus 9 as a cheaper tablet to take some places rather then risking the £1000 Surface Pro.

Might hold off for a few weeks then if new gear is around the corner. Didn't want to spend more than £200 notes ideally. X1 sounds good the pixel C is going to be a bit more pricey. Ok will hold off for a bit. Hate when money tries to burn a hole in your pocket but probably the wisest choice.

Had never heard of this and it looks nice - mind you at around 400 notes it would want to be!

Looking at the specs it's worth every penny and from Google you can expect quick updates.

The new shield tablet with X1 looks okay but I don't want another 8" tablet, seems small now.

Also the screen ratio of the Pixel C is completely difference, it's 3:2 which I think will work quite well for most uses.

Yes I propably agree 8 inches is a bit small. When is it due for release?

I cracked and my Shield K1 is arriving today - watched some YouTube reviews and some of the game streaming looks like it could be good!

My one is waiting for me under the Christmas tree when I get home.

It pretty much does everything that you could need from a tablet. The only down side is the 8 inch screen but I can live with that.

The Pixel C is a completely different device to the Shield and Nexus, and cost double. So i find it strange that it's being recommended in place of either of these to be honest. Surely the windows surface is a better alternative to the Pixel for that sort of device anyway.

My wife has a Nexus 9, I managed to pick it up for £135 after offers and cashback. it's only the 16gb model, but it's perfectly fine for her usage. I wouldn't have been happy with it had it cost over £300, but at sub £200 it's really nice. She just uses it for web browsing and youtube videos mainly, and catching up on tv shows, it doesn't really leave the house to storage isn't an issue.

I'm looking for a tablet for myself now. I've already got a 13" laptop, so don't need something like the Pixel C. I'm thinking the Shield will be a good fit for me as i don't want to spend over £200. I'll use it for watching movies on showbox/kodi, youtube, browsing, and anwsering work emails on my travels when i decide not to take my laptop. The SD Card expansion will be really helpful for storing movies, etc, and i quite fancy sticking some emulators on it to play a few old games when i'm out the house.

The Shield really is a great little tablet. I really like mine.
It's not the prettiest or thinnest but it's quick and feels solid in the hand.

Why not? it's using the newer Tegra X1 SoC so performance should be better.

Larger display, higher resolution, brighter, better battery life, it's a great Android tablet.

Not sure about productivity use, don't really care about that.

My Shield Tablet 32GB LTE will be on only ebay shortly, you might want to keep an eye out for it.

I'm not saying it's not a better more powerful tablet. But if someone is looking at devices around £150-£200, it seems strange that people are pointing them in to the direction of a £400 tablet. Especially has both the cheaper tablets are more than suitable for the stated usage. I just don't see the merit in spending double on something that doesn't really offer much more other than spec sheet bragging and an inch in screen size.

I'm sure the tablet itself will be worth the money in the long run, it's more than powerful enough to last a number of years and hopefully Google will keep it upto date for a few years at least.

It's an option, it costs more but you get more for money, that's how things work.

No need to get your knickers in a twist.
