Nexus 9

there goes the quality control.

Tbh I've always found the Nexus stuff to be pretty well made, certainly not of lesser quality than any other brand of device, depending on the manufacturer.

I got a N7 in August 2012 which I still use today. The main reason I want rid of it is that they've got bad flash memory controllers on them which cause them to slow down drastically over time and not really perk up despite TRIM integration.

Also have an N4 which is LG and have had it 18 months with zero issues and is still going strong. I've never had a smartphone for so long without feeling an itch to upgrade it and it performs as well today as it did when I got it. I ordered it from the Play store for £239 and it was price reduced a week later, so they refunded me the difference (£80) which I honestly don't think many companies would do - they'd sooner just say 'tough'. So it cost me £159 sim free.

You need to convert to F2FS support. I did this recently with my 2012 N7, then put SlimKat on there. It's made a huge difference and it has suddenly become much more usable again with no sign of slowing down yet.

I cancelled my order at Amazon and tried to order from Google only to find my Google wallet (which I rarely use) was locked because of some farcical 'security' reason (entirely their mistake, nothing weird or dodgy at my end). When I eventually managed to get them to unlock it by sending scans of various documents the 32GB Black WiFi Nexus 9 was out of stock.

Between them Google and Amazon have contrived to turn a certain sale into someone who's going to buy an iPad Air 2... such a shame as I've been a fan of Android for years.

you know i had the same thought. the ipad is much more the screen size i want in a tablet.

however i did have an ipad and i couldnt live with ios and its restrictiveness.

I've installed a new ROM on my now very ageing Nook HD+

I originally bought my Nook HD+ (£149) purely as a comic book and manga reader. 1920x1080p resolution, 8.9" display. Perfect.

But now I want a media server controller (my Note 3 screen is a bit small) as well as a comic book reader and was hoping the N9 would be great.

But the price is just too much for now so I will stick with my Nook HD+ for a while longer.

With the whole amazon mess up and delay I'm just going to cancel and not buy the tablet at all. I'm due a phone upgrade soon so will get the nexus 6 and knock the 9 on the head.

Ordered one for my dad which will be replacing his first gen iPad so anything would have been a big upgrade

Considered the iPad mini 3 (waste of money/same as mini 2 with fingerprint sensor)
Mini 2 (was around £250 and still pretty good spec wise)
Samsung galaxy tab s 8.4 (came close to ordering this at £319 with 3 yrs warranty and £50 credit on play store - could have got it around £269 without warranty/credit)
Hudl 2 ( £129 hell of a lot of bang for buck) if my dad hadn't seen and held the galaxy s I would have got him this! Felt like a cheapskate if I got him this after he had seen others.
Benefits for me just edged it for me although there are the negatives of 16 GB and no SD card compared with others.

Pros for me were :
Lolipop 5.0
Screen 4.3 ratio not as high PPI as others though. Still very good.
Cpu\gpu - 64 bit dual core cpu 2.4ghz, will be interesting how it compares to quad core of Samsung galaxy s @1.8ghz(sic) but GPU should wipe the floor with it. Read somewhere that benchmarks comparable to 2012 mac.
Camera - 8mp with flash which most tablets don't have, quality again will probably be poor but hopefully will be good enough.

Tbh was expecting a little cheaper as when the original nexus 7 was introduced it was massively cheaper than the rival apples, think I paid £199 for 32 GB version on release.

Still pretty good price for what you get though. The £80 for 32gb is taking the **** a bit but if the USB otg still works can add storage cheaply that way.

Anyone know how long Play Store takes to refund for a device?, just cancelled Nexus 9 order to change address (as u cant change address after an order is made).

answered my own question, forgot they just put a hold on the funds so refund should be a few days at most

It said 1-3 days during checkout on the Play store, but hopefully will be next day. Also during checkout it said "Dispatched from warehouse by 3 November" but at checkout it said "Dispatched on 3 November"...so I'm guessing it will be at least Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday next week until I get mine.

I bought an iPad Air 2 last week, had to return the first one due to a dead pixel and the replacement (new, sealed unit in a different colour) had a dead pixel too. Once seen, a dead pixel is very hard to ignore so I returned the replacement for a refund and ordered the Nexus 9. I've had dead pixels before when the first Nexus 7 came out in 2012, so hopefully I'll be a bit luckier this time around!!!

I asked guy on play store support chat if he knew if mine (16gb wi fi) would be despatched on 3rd, he said depending on which model you have ordered it might be, so you could *maybe* infer from that some may be delayed.

Amazon have alerted me today that my order has gone back to the original date, however I have cancelled the order.

On reflection it's just too much money.

I cant afford it at the moment so saving up, I am looking for a bigger tablet after using ipads at work, by the time I can afford it there will have been a few months to see if there are any real issues etc. I do like the look of it though.

Does Amazon uk carry the warranty if ordered from Amazon FR?

Amazon FR have an offer where you get a free chromecast with any Nexus 9 order.

Both the 32GB black and white models seem to be sold out now on the Play Store. Hopefully anyone who got an order in has theirs shipped out today for delivery by the middle of the week!

I went for a 32GB in white.
