With the draft out of the way and the final week of training in full swing, I guess its time to stick a new thread up.

This season will be off to an epic start as Green Bay face the SeaHawks next Thursday (Friday UK) , followed by pretty much everyone else playing on Saturday.

Rule changes will aim to speed up the sport a little bit and clearly make it more tense during those last minute kick opportunities. There is also a massive push to punish unruly behaviour as it is starting to seep into the NCAA and the NFL have admitted that it needs to get it under control.

* Goal uprights have been raised by 5 Metres.
* More replays on fumbles/recoveries
* Clock will continue on a QB sack towards end of game
* Unsportsmanlike conduct cracked down super hard - 15 yard penalties will be raining down on the field until players learn to behave.

So as a Green Bay fan , this season cant possibly be worse than the last!

What are everyone's predictions this year? Whos going to Wembley and how are people choosing to watch this year?

Bronco's fan here... season hasn't started and Welker already has another concussion. Worried that our offense isn't as diverse as it was last year but hoping Peyton can pull us through. Defensively we look a lot stronger, but think its the Patriots for the conference title this year and possibly the Superbowl too.

Options are generally:

Sky Sports or Gamepass

Sky sports is super limited in that they generally show only 3 games a weekend, so if you want to follow a team and really dont watch UK football - Gamepass works out the best.

That comes in 3 flavours:
£120 gets you all the season for all teams , plus archived wild card, playoffs games etc + redzone
£100 gets you all the above - the wild card and playoffs.
£80 is for following one team only and you dont get redzone or any playoffs.

Quality is decent and its a super reliable service with full download and PVR features.

I can't wait to go see Buccaneers vs Ravens in Tampa when I visit Florida in October, I've been a Ravens fan ever since I lived there back in 1999.

Lucky. im in America for 3 weeks starting this saturday , great time to go see some NFL I thought - NOPE. Literally in the wrong places at the wrong times for all of the 3 weeks :o

I bought some tickets for my brothers birthday for us to see the cowboys vs Jaguars in November at Wembly. I bought them quite late, so i got premium club in the end. Right in the centre of the field. Should be good. Hopefully Blake Bortles makes an appearance.

I recommend NFL now also, loads of highlights and interviews and all that. All for around £1.20 a month.

I'd settle for Oakland finding a coach that can last in the organization :(

still...not long to go now, looking forward to the new season

Good to have College football back tonight. Nice opening drive for TAMU, so many offensive weapons this year.

Pretty solid stop by the D first up as well.

I've been using NFL GamePass since 2006/07 and it's a good service for the money which I love to bits but is far from perfect (I was also previously a user of the Yahoo SD service before the introduction of NeuLion HD-provided service).

For starters it's massively restricted in the UK (& Ireland) due to the current TV rights. Irrespective of which package you buy, during the regular season two of the Sunday games (one of the 6pm & 9pm games) aren't available live or even to watch on-demand until 24-hours after the end of the game. This means you can miss your team if they are chosen to be on those Sky games. In addition Sky tend to pick the games late (and later as the season progresses as games with play-off implications change) so make sure they show the best game on paper or the most anticipated each week. As mentioned no live play-offs, Superbowl or Pro-Bowl.

In addition historically the UK Prices have been amongst the highest of the European countries where it is sold when other countries don't have these blackout restrictions and therefore can watch all games live. It's nice to see it's recently reduced from £129.99 to £119.99 for the Season Plus but this might not be specific to the UK. Personally I would like to see a substantial reduction in the UK price for GamePass to reflect the severe restrictions in this premium priced product but I suspect this will never happen.

Furthermore the product can be unreliable during periods of high usage. See the complaints on NFLUK forums during the opening 6pm week one games when everyone goes to log on; it's a yearly event. And we've already seen this during the week one pre-season games and specifically on the mobile streams (which have higher number of concurrent users). That being said the service in the main is dependable but it can, very occasionally have issues.

Finally there's no native Apps of any kind for Smart TV, Games Consoles or Apple TV. You can only stream to a Television via another device. There's never been an official explanation from NFLUK or NeuLion as to why but the very likeliest reason is due to an existing TV rights contract.

So just be aware that in the UK to watch all games live, or see any post season games live you MUST have Sky + GamePass. So whilst GamePass is a great service, here in the UK at least, it is a very limited one. I'd still absolutely recommend, and it is feature rich and the future, but people should be aware of the limitations.

Oh and....Da Bears!

Steelers had a reasonable draft and going into the training camp I was quite hopeful of a good season (maybe 11-5), given that Steelers also have (I think) the 9th easiest schedule this season.

After 4 preseason games going 1-3 I'm not quite so optimistic. Run blocking has been atrocious so far when most thought that pass defence would be the weak spot.

I still think that we will improve on the past 2 seasons 8-8 due to the easy schedule, but I'm only predicting a 9-7 season now.

Given that the AFC is relatively weak at the moment, 9-7 could well get us into the playoffs. I would imagine Broncos, Pats and Colts are guaranteed to be in the playoffs, but the other 3 spots are pretty wide open.

Hi guys, can you explain this for me:

I believe this is the rule change brought in earlier this year that was prompted by the NFC Championship game between the Niners and Seahawks. The change means a play where a loose ball is recovered can be reviewed on instant replay to limit or reduce the wrong calls: Link here. In that game there was a recovered fumble that was called incorrectly on the field but couldn't be reviewed afterwards due to the existing rules. Also a horrible injury to one of the players involved by that's an aside.

don't forget to check for discount codes, only managed to find 10% the other day but it all helps.

also, theres a trial on at the moment, think it ends on 2nd september, it does ask you to sign up/give card details, and they say you can cancel any time prior to them taking payment for the year.

on the plus side, even though bradford is out i've liked the short look i've had of Austin Davis, if anything i'd prefer them to give him a run at the start of the season and see how he does.

Nice one, thanks.

Note sure how that will speed things up though!

not likely to, but think its more to do with improving the decisions and getting fewer mistakes, think they did something similar with touchdown reviews ?

Good point there's actually a few discounts that can be used on top of each other:

  • Friend referral code for 10%. People were exchanging these on the NFLUK forums.
  • Quidco 10% cashback.
  • REP15 was meant to work for 15% off but I can't see this substantiated anywhere.
Last year I used both to bring the cost down from the £130 but this year was impatient and only used the Quidco on the then £130 price. So I did end up spending a few more pounds than I should have but I'm not going to lose too much sleep over that.

I enjoyed Gamepass last year - first time using it and first time really watching the games to any great extent.

However, my parents don't use their SkyGo in their house so I'm debating with myself whether to just use that to watch whatever is on Sky this season.
The problem with that SkyGo does not work on a Chromebook!!!

I do have a Laptop but it's crap and on it's death bed - also doesn't have HDMI.

So - do I pay for Gamepass so I can watch it on my TV, or just stick to SkyGo for free and watch the games on the PC?

PC is only 22" and TV is a top of the range one - picture is amazing on it.

1st world problem - but a problem nontheless!

It's such a shame that Gamepass isn't available on games consoles like the NHL gamecenter app. That works a treat and I use it daily on PS3 and PS4 when the season is on.

I hope Gamepass get an app out soon - I'd sign back up instantly if they did.

Lack of native NFL apps on Apple TV, Games Consoles or Smart TV is a major annoyance. As mentioned it must be a contractual issue somewhere. I assume it's not on the Amazon Fire TV either but don't own one so don't know for sure.

Even if it comes out it'll be on Xbox only no doubt as they seem to have a deal with the NFL.
Latest statement I read though said no immediate plans for a console app.

I was chuffed when I realised I could get NHL Gamecenter Live by downloading from the US PSN store. Premier Sports air all the playoff games so I end up behind on those but at least it's there to use. It's much nicer having an app on the console or tv rather than setting up the chromebook via HDMI.

I guess I'll give SkyGo a shot for the first round of games this weekend and if it's not much good I'll buy Gamepass.

I picked Seahawks last season as my team (no real reason) and they ended up winning. This year, well they will be hard to beat again but I'll go for Panthers - just because I enjoyed watching them last season.

I stick to the Blues for the NHL but for NFL I don't have a particular favorite - I just enjoy whoever plays well
