NFL 2024 season

Interesting final weekend in some ways. Unfortunately the big battle for the no.1 seed in the NFC didn't quite produce but the weekend had it's mix of boring, good and bad games. Again how people take losing is always interesting. A certain fan base don't necessarily show their 'class' in this regards, but hey ho.

Good luck to all the playoff teams. Hopefully someone finds a way to stop the Chiefs as it's getting a bit boring :)

Whilst for us Bears it's on to the HC carousel next.

I dont get this playoff format. Why are the NFC runner-ups (The Vikings & The Commanders) playing on the road when their WC opponents have a worse record? I don't agree with it being this way round, The regular season record should decide the seeding.

Technically it's always been that way is probably the answer. It's because the Division titles should mean something and therefore you've achieved something if you won your division. Although a lot more people seem to be vocal on it not being fair.

If you did change seedings though, you would theoretically make the divisions redundant and risk more meaningless games towards the end of the season.

It was far less of an issue when it was only 6 playoff teams for each conference in the old 3 division format. Also arguably creates more exciting playoff games potentially as dangerous wildcards (Ravens with Flacco, GB in 2011 and Tampa a few years ago) go on epic post-season runs.

Well, that would need all the divisions to be clumped into just the conference. As said above, how it is means you win your division, you get a home game, which I can see the reasoning behind.

The other thing is that Wildcard weekend used to be just that. The lowest seeded Division winner and 3 wildcard teams for each conference. You could do something similar with 3 teams getting a bye but that would eat into their $profits so wouldn't happen. Particularly as they (owners) want more games.

@AndyCr15 You must be ecstatic given the result this weekend. :)

Watched most of the games this weekend live however apart from the aforementioned close game the others were all duds. Fantastic defense on show from the Texans, Bills, Rams and Eagles. The Packers D also turned up as well. But overall a lot of disappointing performances from offensive units.

Yeah, although when a game is close like that, I can't enjoy it in the moment, as I'm just waiting for it to go wrong

I feel like the pressure is off against the Lions as I assume no-one gives us a chance and we're expected to get battered...

I think the off season will be interesting. Will we attract more talent wanting to jump on the Daniels hype train? Next year's schedule looks pretty tough, so we'll need a better D!

Yea, it is stressful watching your own team. I think this season is a free ride as you're already exceeded expectations, as you say. I do think you have to get at Goff and shut down Gibbs - which is going to be very difficult.

The Commanders should be very active in FA and capitalise on their massive cap space for 2025 (3rd largest). You are in that window of cheap rookie contract which unfortunately is only going to last a couple of years (same as us and a few others).

I don't really support any team in the NFL, but love watching the game.. and i've really enjoyed watching the Commanders this season, and yes I imagine as a fan it's been a "bumpy" ride? but with more ups than downs!

Whatever happens next.. you've really have got to capitalise on the Daniels factor in the off season!!

Wow, what a game between the Commanders and Lions. Such a fun game to watch, particularly the 1st half.

In both games tonight some bad officiating and very favourable to a certain AFC QB.

The face mask call was shocking.

Redskins/Commanders in their first championship game since 1991.

I'm stunned that the Lions lost that game at home, It reminded me of the then Redskins run to SB22 by winning at the then all conquering Bears in the playoff game, which was Walter Payton's last in the NFL. Jayden will be only the 6th Rookie QB to start a Championship game. If the Commanders win next Sunday he will be the first Rookie QB to start a SB.

I remember listening to that game on the armed forces radio, Darrell Green returning a punt for a score. Great memories.

Yep, and whilst I could hope it's the first of many with Daniels at the helm, I'm wondering if we make it to the Superbowl, do I need to crack into my savings and get myself to New Orleans...

I almost felt sorry for the Lions though. What do they need to do?! Poor bleeders... Mind you, we could battle them for 'who's had the worst last 30 years' I guess.

Remember that game and the following year when the Niners crushed us (Bears) at Soldier Field. Back then Washington were absolutely one of the NFC juggernauts, who went back-to-back in the early 80's (winning SB17, losing SB18) as well as winning in SB22 & 26. They knocked us out two years in succession and we only had the higher seed in '87 due to the tiebreaker, both teams were the same record and division winners (strike action that season too). Ironically the best team were the Niners who were taken out by the lowest seed Vikings (like last night) and I remember that being quite a shock. However one thing back then was sure, for a small while the NFC team would destroy which ever team emerged from the AFC (often the Bills or Broncos).

I almost felt sorry for the Lions though. What do they need to do?! Poor bleeders... Mind you, we could battle them for 'who's had the worst last 30 years' I guess.

I think that the 18 injuries, mainly on D, it just all caught up with them in the end. Although take nothing away from how well Washington played. The last 5/6 games of the regular season the Lions had been allowing too many points. At full strength with their secondary and Hutchinson, who knows maybe it might have been a different result. Although at times last night it did feel like there weren't any defenses at all. Huge plays and teams scoring at will. I couldn't help but agreed with a Detroit fan who said 'more Gibbs, and less Goff please'. Gibbs is so, so good.

Regarding Goff, I hate to be that guy, but when he's bad, he's very bad and he had a stinker. Which it seems all 3 of the NFC North Play-off QBs have done in the last few weeks. And again Sean McVay did ship him out for a 1st-round pick for a reason. One of the brightest HC's in football didn't want him to get over that hump. And as much as it's horrible to say unfortunately it kinda came true again. But I do think with a better injury record they might have been able to do more. Detroit's issue now is going to be balancing their cap space given they are one of these teams with so much invested in their QB. Hutchinson, then Gibb's, amongst others will want huge contracts so they are going to have to run it back as-is mostly. Not impossible but this season it did look like being their year for so long.

Anyway let Brady and co have Ben Johnson now. We can take Kingsbury ;) Although it feels like he does seem to have been a bit forgotten about in this round of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn-fuelled media madness. He does deserve another shot at HC.

Ravens vs Bills is surely going to be the game of the post season so far! I’m just not sure I can stay up that late on a school night :(

Rams vs Eagles entertaining so far. Snow in the second half will be interesting and will negatively impact the throwing game. Stafford might come off worse given he doesn’t have as good a run option as Hurts.

I just want a nice boring game with no drama. The Ravens are the team I didn't want to face after they smashed us in week 4 so I'll just be happy to get through it. I might end up being very tired in work tomorrow morning!

I was so pulling for the Rams. It's not so much that I'd rather play them next week, but honestly if we lose, it's gonna really sting if we loose to the Eagles. I thought they were going to sneak it too, very close game. The conditions really turn things down for everyone.

I've just woken and started watching the second game. I don't mind who wins this, as long as they beat the Chiefs next week.
