NFL 2024 season

this year the ball bouncing off the Niners on the return.
And this is one of the things I thought about. I think it's fine to say (and most people would) that this was luck. At the same time though, it's a coached thing that gets hammered into players and for which possibly the returner needs to take responsibility for... no-one should be anywhere near that ball if the returner isn't catching it.

but the ball has to bounce in the right way etc.
But for a punt return, it's a numbers game. Luck would be the one 49er back there having it bounce to him, instead of the 4 or 5 Chiefs... not the other way around, if you know what I mean?

I'm not saying it's not luck... just that luck is a very interesting topic when you really get into it

The kicker wasn't aiming for the Niner player's heal and I think that's some of the luck involved. I suspect most if not all of the successful teams in sports tend to enjoy the benefit of 'luck' than the losing teams.
My point is though, yes, the ball went there, but his foot should not have been. That's not luck that he's near where the ball landed, that's an error.

I don't follow College, so don't worry too much about mock drafts and such, I just wait for the actual draft, then look into players after. Mind you, I've not even done this yet, but people seem quite positive about the Commanders draft. From the little bits I've heard, I might have preferred us to take Drake Maye with the #2, but let's see.

It should be easy enough. I've been over and watched various games and never had a problem, including games like Washington vs Dallas on Thanksgiving.

Me and my brother used to go over for Thanksgiving week, watch a game at each weekend and stay in the total watching football and eating junk food all Thanksgiving day. We've not been over for a while, but keep checking the schedule each year. Funnily enough, we are kinda waiting for a reason to go to Chicago (Having done the east coast a few times, the west coast, Texas and Georgia)

I see the Vikings play in Chicago the weekend before TG and we could fly down to New Orleans to see them play the Rams the weekend after. It probably won't happen this year, but I guess there's the option.

My brother became a Leicester Panthers fan and we ended up following them for a number of games in the early 90's.
Me and my family went to most of these games too. My parents were the official video team for the Panthers (and the league asked them to film a few of the finals too)

I played a few games with the Panthers, but mainly I played for their Youth team as by the time I moved to senior football, I was living in London so played with the Mets and Cheetahs. I'm fairly sure I played against the Norwich Devils at some point.

That's the funny thing though. In the late 80's and early 90's you would maybe have a couple of thousand people at Saffron Lane to watch the Panthers. These days, it's mainly friends and family, maybe 100 people at a game...

I've just watched the first two episodes of 'Hard Knocks: In Season with the New York Giants' and it's been fascinating. This one is about the off-season prep, starting mid Jan and it's working towards free agency and then the draft. Really interesting. Anyone else seen it?

The Commanders was an interesting watch. Daniels looks like he has potential, but I was rather disappointed with how little they let him air it out. I think I read it was only one pass longer than 10 yards through the air. It's always hard to tell in week 1, are the Buccs actually really good and so we did 'okay' or are they 'okay' and we did terrible.

That is our season down the pan. I have no idea what we would do without him but Tua needs to retire, before he suffers permanent long term damage. That was horrible to watch :(
I only saw the highlights so didn't really see what happened, maybe head on into someone. Tbh, I was a little surprised he came back after the last concussion.
Not a great start to the fantasy week.
I have Cook in my lineup, so I'm rather chuffed

The late sideline hit on Caleb
I'd have to see it again, but tbh I thought it was okay. I only saw it the once, but I seem to remember he was moving forwards and in bounds. (As opposed to a hit on Daniels where he was in bounds, but was clearly heading out)

Whilst the false starts were annoying, I felt a LOT better about the Commanders game. Granted, it might have been because it was against the Giants, but Danials looked a lot better. He was slinging some balls a bit deeper down the field and there was only one pass that made me go 'wth was that' and even that one wasn't all that bad (bounced at the guys feet). It's interesting, Daniel's had been running too much again and then got hit hard and all of a sudden he was trying to stay in the pocket and throw the ball more and it looked like he was really building confidence. Throw in that we finally had a 100 yard rusher again and it looked promising.

Well... as a Commanders fan, that was a bit of a surprise. I'd recorded the whole game and watched up to 14-7 (or something like that) then the recording skipped to us up 38-33 and I was rather confused, thinking it was perhaps showing something from history. When I worked out it was an error with the recording I watched the highlights on YouTube instead, so it's a shame I didn't get to enjoy it in it's entirety, but wow, who would have thought? As I posted above, Daniels looks to be gaining confidence and last night was clearly the next step. Highest competition percentage of a rookie EVER (at least 20 att) and "Jayden Daniels’ 27-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin had a completion probability of 10.3%, the most improbable touchdown of the season, and the most improbable completion by the Commanders in the NGS era (since 2016)."

I really don't want to get my hopes too high as I've been here many times before (Most recently with RG3, but tbh Daniels looks better than him already) but it's an interesting start to our season.

Jayden Daniels with another good game... throw in another 100 yard rusher and maybe closing in on 200 yards team rushing and even a reasonable defensive performance and there's just that little bit more belief...

Next week is the Browns, which is another winnable game.

We've been doing our fantasy league since 2003. Never in that time have Washington been 4-1 and my fantasy team been 4-1. I'm not sure what to feel. I've been hurt too many times before...

Never in that time have Washington been 4-1 and my fantasy team been 4-1.
I guess today it will be Washington OR my fantasy team, given that I'm riding high on Lamar and King Henry (oh, and Tucker)

Tbh, I didn't expect us to be able to win this one (Washington), but at least we look like we should be on the same field as them. Mind you, hold on to a couple of our drops and maybe it would be 10-10 right now.
