Damn EA, went to install and it defaulted the install to my firefox prorams folder

OK, installed and its giving me nice b0rkage to the extent of green squares making my GFX card look borked, great. Sod it, i give up.

Don't worry man, you ain't missing much :p.

Does anybody thats on NVIDIA and have the PureVideo codecs installed having problems installing the demo?

First time it said I didn't have d3dx9_30.dll, now I no longer get that.

after that its...

This is with directx_oct2006_redist.exe installed.

So I was told to run the installer in Windows 2000 compatibility mode, which is rather silly it would seem considering its Windows XP SP2.

So after that it starts failing on installing the tracks.

and have no choice to abandon the install since it keeps popping up.
Downloaded this 4 times, and have given up because of these problems.

Whats so odd is I have no issues with NFS: Most Wanted, which has been on the system for the past 10 months which is working just fine.

Some others I spoke to had crc problems trying to install Carbon, so I don't know whats up appart from bad programming on EA's part.

Only "problem" I had was that with the Exotic car it is next to impossible to win the canyon chase (took me ten tries before I overtook him for 10 seconds rather than the other way around), and with the Tuner car it is just too easy.

I found that too. Drifting with the muscle car was ok and for the canyon run was fun. Tuner was good for the circuit and acceptable for the drift. The exotic was shocking for the circuit and canyon and absolutly appauling for the drift.

To sum up my views on the 3 classes:

Muscle - 'Fun' handling (back kicking out) and a bit of a laugh.
Tuner - Handling not challenging at all. Very easy to win.
Exotic - Absolute joke. Uncontrolable in 1st or 2nd gear. Ended up using the handbrake to get round corners at any acceptable speed.

I was using a wheel hence the muscle car handling being fun.

I had already preordered this game before the demo came out :(. I just hope that the storyline or other gameplay modes make up for this dissapointing demo.

I thought the demo was and looked pretty good, although it killed my system (30 fps average @1024X768 - anything higher was unplayable!) but the motion blur made it play decently. I hope they optimise the final game better, I don't want to play at some crappy low resolution.

Nice to see EA haven't put in widescreen support yet, 1024x768 stretched on a 1440x900 monitor, lovely.

Exotic car I found pretty good for the drift and race, but the canyon race was impossible, it just didn't turn well enough. took me a good few attempts to win, and that was by overtaking the guy for 10 seconds. Tuner was easy to win with on everything but the drift (I dunno why, I just couldn't get the thing to drift) and the muscle car, OMFG that thing was insane. It was sliding all over the place, great fun especially with a wheel but very difficult in the normal race. Canyon duel was way too easy with it though, you could just slide your way round the corners, I managed to win it first time unlike the other two car which took many an attempt.

Cheers for the heads up on this, it is worth the play and I may buy the full game but it has a nasty habit of crashing out to Windows after a while. Most of the mirrors were nearly full when I tried yesterday so I was getting 20k/s until I went to a site based in the Czech Republic which downloaded at about 230k/s. :D

It looks (and plays) decent enough but nothing out of the ordinary and I don't particularly like the canyon race, it feels a little too unforgiving and the idea of being able to win by getting ahead for 10 seconds makes it rather easy to win since getting back up to speed in time is near impossible for the other person.

As for the classes, the Tuner is rediculously easy to win everything with, the Muscle seems to be a lot of fun and the Exotic was somewhat disappointing.

Thats it! The handbrake was the only way to win in the end.
lol yeah! thats the only way to get it round the tight bends in 3rd without it going into 2nd and it becoming uncontrollable as you pull out of the corner. Glad i could help!

I'm surprised we came up with the same idea. I usually never use the handbrake, but this time its all I ever used. I had such high hopes for this :(

I just tried the drift without the steering wheel... what an absolute joke! Just so easy, feels like you are watching a video of someone else doing it there is so little interaction between you and the car. I drifts all by itself!

Hope the full game fixes all these problems but its onlyysfrom release now so i seriously doubt it. Hopefully a patch then?

Lol im guessing im the only one who found Drifting Semi fun :P

I know it is completly un realistic, but it is a good laugh i think when you are bored. Bombing it around a track twisting a turning is always good.

Just like every other NFS ye, but meh, i thought the drifting was a laugh :P

1st time I went round the track I was like WTF, as I'm used to the old drift style of NFSUG2 was ranked as elite online with that lol

After having a couple of tries though its pretty fun :D

When you get the hang of it you can do some nice long drifts, the drift tracks have a lot more potential for long drifts over the UG maps, the other two races were a bit easy but I'd imagine the retail game will be bit harder.

I'll be buying it anyhoo, should keep me amused for a few days at least.

hmm is it me or is the game slow responsive to controls? I've finished all 3 races but the cars feel very slow in responce, while fps are 30+, kinda annoying me as im used to quick responce from ug2 and mw.
Also, what is so gfx intensive about it compared to older nfs games, i think it looks a lot worse than nfsu2, the city part anyhow, yet fps are lowish and i cant see anything that would look hard to render...

I'm 54% through the full game atm, most of the handleing is like MW.

Downhill drifts are rather hard compared to the track.

The muscle car is the most fun to drive as long as you dont mind the tail slides :D
