Cigar aficionados will also say that you should never use a lighter to light, and a long wooden match is the only proper way to do it. Something to do with the gas tarnishing the cigar. I'm not sure about that though.

You should never use a zippo type fuel lighter, gas lighters are fine.

Forgot to mention that actually.

I've always been taught never to use gas/zippo lighters - but to use proper cigar matches or jet lighters and toast the end gently until it lights.
