Hi,

I got pulled doing 36 in a 30 today. Mobile camera man on his own.

He didn't say much except asking me what the limit was and what I thought I was doing (I said 35), then he said "don't speed" twice and sent me on my way.

At the time I was thinking 'damn I'm lucky'. Then I started thinking maybe I'm not?

So which is it, would the officer have explicitly said that I will get nicked for it or not. I know I'm an idiot for not asking but at the time I was too focused on avoiding confrontation to make things worse :p

You got away with it this time, if you must speed, just try and be more observant of potential trouble ahead, ie traffic, cameras, dodgy vans on side of road etc ;)

I hope you guys are right :o

It's just a sleepy little village in Cambridgeshire called Brinkley. I go through it every day to get to work.

What caught me off guard is there is normally a guy in a hi-vez vest delivering news papers every morning I drive past. So I see a hi-viz vest in the distance and think nothing of it :(

There have probably been complaints about speeding from the locals, so the feds have been told to "do something". If you were being booked you would have a piece of paper in your hand at the end of the talk, so all you got was an informal warning.

...If you thought you were doing 35 and got stopped for 36 then wouldn't your speedo have read closer to 40? (unless its well calibrated of course)

Familiar territory breads complacency.

getting pulled for speeding in brinkley is harsh enough, there's nothing there! Were you in the actual village or just the but the newmarket road cuts through? i'll have to keep an eye out
but yeah you should be fine, you'd of got it there and then if you were going to get done

I was going through it to go onto 6 Mile Bottom, so yeah the actual village I think? There's houses n'such to the left and right anyway.

Usually there's this really old looking bus parked up in a layby but yesterday it was a scamera man there instead :p

you shoudl be okay, a guy at work lost his licsense a few weeks back for 39 in a 30 and 40 in a 30.

a friend of mine was driving home at nite at about 2am and was doing 30, which was unbearably slow, so sped upto 60, at which point he got pulled by the police. If im correct double the speed limit is your licsense gone? the officer was very straight foward gave him a talking to and sent him on his way. was so lucky. Sed his heart sank when he herd the sirens. I dont speed at nite because you cant tell if a cars a police car or not.

I got stopped for doing 35 in a 30 and was told if i were doing 37 i would have had a ticket ....
I don't think there are any fixed figures to issue penalties etc. on. I've mentioned before that I've been caught, and stopped, after travelling at 80 in a 40 and received only an unrecorded warning. I think it's more your driving overall, attitude and the particular conditions and road when/where stopped that matters more than the exact speed.

I think your safe. You'd have received a formal caution or an NIP if you were getting procecuted.

You won't get a NIP if you are stopped. They are issued if you have been caught by one of the remote devices such as Camera Vans, Gatsos etc.

I got caught doing 35 in a 30 by a mobile speed camera in Slough earlier in the year, but they didn't write to me in time so I was able to avoid points.
