Mercedes have taken disciplinary action against Nico Rosberg following his collision with team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the Belgian Grand Prix.

The England-based team says in a statement released Friday that Rosberg has "acknowledged his responsibility for the contact" that occurred in the second lap of Sunday's race and "apologized for this error of judgment."

Following a meeting between the two drivers, executive director Toto Wolff and technical chief Paddy Lowe, Mercedes says "suitable disciplinary measures have been taken" against Rosberg but that he is free to race in the championship.

Don't think it needed it's own thread tbh, was obvious it was coming and it'll just be a fine, nothing to see here.

They said he has been a very naughty boy and made him say sorry to Lewis before they were made to shake hands and then they were sent out to play...

Love the way that Mercedes said both drivers are free to race, and now they're disciplining one of their drivers for doing what they said they could. Back to team orders for Mercedes zzz.

One of their drivers definitely won't be with them next year though, whichever one loses the title I guess, that's for sure. I agree with Mark Webber, they haven't got a "team" with both Hamilton and Rosberg together.

The way i see it he was disciplined for colliding, not for racing.

I imagine they have put a scheme in place where if Lewis is leading him in qfy in the next race then he wins with no fight from Rosberg allowed (even in the remote chances he could).

Should have benched Rosberg for a race if they felt so strongly about it, they have run away with the Constructors Championship, and even if Lewis won he would still be 6 points ahead.

I am a Lewis fan and know the above would likely never happen in a money driven / sponsorship dominated sport.

They haven't disciplined him for racing, they've disciplined him for deliberately causing a collision with his team mate. There's quite a difference.

Williams had a similar rule in the late 80's - do whatever you want but don't hit each other. If they had, FW would have gone berserk.

Seriously? Just seriously?

Outside of Motorsport you're cool. Inside here you are like motorsports very own Tony Williams.

They have always been free to race providing they didn't collide.

But you knew that... so... yeah, back under your bridge.
