Somewhat inspired thread from this video

But I wanted to ask.

Am i strange in that, like the advert, i like to drive around cities in the hush of night, when theres nobody on the streets, and just relax, listening to some good chillout music (such as anything on the label em:t (woob, etc)).

I specifically found myself in london for the first time ever at around 3am trying to find the place I was staying, this was on a saturday AM and there was no rain, it was quite surreal.

Nope, I quite enjoy it too. Driving in the dead of night with very few cars on the road is relaxing and satisfying, rural or urban :)

In the summer if I'm bored / can't sleep I'll indulge in some top down cruisin'

edit: Thread makes me think of this great song

In the summer with the roof down I do this quite a bit. I honestly prefer it to driving around in the day in summer. Just something very raw about it especially when you are out in the countryside.

I like night driving too, I do it quite a bit actually, at least once a week I'll be on the road in the dead of night. Although not usually in the centre of a city. In-fact I think I'm gonna go for a drive a little later, I'll take some Ludovico Einaudi with me too :)

I'm not sure my first choice would be the Golf GTI though, but I do think they are great little cars. I can imagine prowling around in a Mustang or a Camaro (new shape) though, with it's evil stance and venomous engine note :D

It's great with the roof down. Very refreshing. I'm not a built up person, but towns and cities are interesting at night. Mate with an RX7 used to drive us into Manchester for a drive round the good and bad bits.

Last time I drove late night was when I did Goodwood and back in one day. BAD idea. Set off at silly o'clock to get there for 9 I think then set off at 5.30pm and got back at 1am. Was nice on the way down watching it go from light to dark though. Way back was torture as it was real quiet. I'd been awake for 24 hours and regular breaks weren't helping that much.

I would, but the headlights in my VTR are shocking. Selotaping my iPhone to the number plate would be more effective.

Shame that the only projector retrofit (for fitting HIDs in) is "Angel Eyes".... though I could just not wire up the halo's and use the normal sidelight bulb...

its the only time you can really enjoy driving ,during the day your either stuck in traffic or behind someone doing 28mph in a 40 mph .

I think the speed limit should be increased late at night on certain roads ,no kids about do we really need to stick to 30mph on some long straight roads we even have a dual carriageway that is 30mph

i love driving at night. When i lived in the middle of nowhere in Norway, the country roads along the fjords were fantastic at night as you could bomb along safe in the knowledge that if someone was coming, you'd see their headlights well in advance.

night driving on the motorway is fun but only because there's no traffic.
unlit motorways are another matter, as you can't use main beam due to oncoming traffic

have you tried brigher bulbs like Osram Nightbreakers?

I used to get to do this on a weekly basis when I went out with friends. Driving home after dropping them off at 1am or later was awesome. Nobody else anywhere to be seen, pottering about all relaxed and listening to quiet music or radio 1 with whatever DJ was on at that hour.

when i saw this i rememberd this top gear episode

Id love to own a Merc 6.2 car one day. The noise is just so utterly earth shaking. I can think of few things better than to go driving at 2am with nothing but the noise of that engine

I picked up a friend from a night out in Central London about 2/230am once. And like others have said, it's quite odd seeing what's normally a rammed place just so bloody quiet. Loved it :)

I'm liking the music, anyone know what it is?

Advert reminds me of the beginning of CLK Black road test. by Jeremy Clarkson with Mogwai playing.
