Nightshifts

Everyone is different. Just try it and see.

Ive also worked continental shifts (4 nights on - 4 days off - then 4 days on - 4 days off ) for the last 11 years - working from 7pm to 7am nights and 7am to 7pm days. I work with approx. 800 other people who do the same shift pattern.

I would say 50% love the nights - 50% hate them (to the point of them getting sick and saying they want to get a day job/leave)

I personally love night shifts. I get 25% more on my basic pay .... I get no hassle from other office staff and my job is so much easier than it is on days - as I get called about 5 times compared to 50 times. I also detest Monday-Friday, 9-5 jobs. I love having a different 4 days off every week - compared to the same old routine of going out on Fri night, just to sit with a hangover on Sat...then thinking about work on a Sunday. 2 Days off is terrible and I could never go back to it.

Theres a lot more to life than going out at night in the summer - and if you work the hours now and put a few good weeks in - you might have the option to get the same job at the times you want - at least you will have the cash to enjoy on the days you have off.

I do the odd night shift at the Hospital where i work, on the switchboard.

Its not too bad. At the time, i hate it, because staying awake is hard (cant sleep as i manage all the emergancy systems!)

But looking back:

- Its a few quid more doing a night shift compared to day (about £10/night)
- No hassle from the office staff in the day (no gossip etc)
- Easy money (not many calls at night on a switchboard, so i just sit there most of the time - but can also get boring / tiring quickly)
- I have a TV / Internet / Microwave and Kettle at my disposal

shifts are 22:30 > 06:30. Permant Nightshifts work like 3 or 4 nights on, and 3 or so off.

Can think of worse to be honest :)

I am currently working nights, I'm a little bit of a loner though so it doesn't really bother me that much. I work in London so driving in and out is much more satisfying when you are going against the traffic. Clear roads all the way.

Nights arnt that bad, if you can take a laptop and it has wireless, but it will mess up your sleep pattern if you're nt used to it - as in, you'll end up sleeping a LOT!
