Nikon D810.

Tested the video quickly, and audio seems much cleaner than the d800's noisy pre-amp.
Also looking forward to some 1080p slow motion.
Video/sound is unedited.

I do like that noise on the 6400 shot. Very clean :)

Cmon Canon, bring out the 5Dmk4, daddy needs new 0% finance options :p

Well I'm expecting the 5d iiii to make a fairly big jump compared to the D810 as apparently it's not out until 2015. According to rumours Canon have made good progress with sensor tech, and I'm expecting big leaps in terms of video.

The D810 looks like a nice small incremental upgrade from the D800/E but not something I would go for already having a D800. I'll wait until the D900/E or whatever it is called.

I partly agree tbh. I have noticed a few other improvements that look minor to most, but will make a big difference to me from a usability standpoint. One being the control stick thing that I haven't seen anyone else pickup on.

I'm guessing D820..

I doubt it. The D810 is just a midlife upgrade so would traditionally be called a D800s, like the D4s, D300s D300s. With the D600 Nikon seemed to have changed the S nomenclature to be a 10 whenever possible. For the D600 this might have been marketing to avoid bad press of oil issues. With the D800 it might be something similar, D800xs is not so clear because there is no D800s (with AA filter). In general the s suffix was fairly poor because it made searching for model specific info hard.

The D900 will be a hole new camera like the D800 was to the D700. marketing the Full D800 successor as a D810 will make the marketing department cry, so it will be the D900
The Issue will be what will the successor to the D600/D610 be? D650?

I think Nikon kind of messed up with its numbering system. If they started their base model at 1000 then there would be plenty of space for all cameras to have a 4 digit name. [Canon's scheme isn't much better the 6D must be a better camera than the 5D because the 600D was better than the 500D right?, Sony also seem to be messed up, I have no idea how you differentiate the different NEX cameras, SLTs, alpha mounts E munts etc, etc]

Will be interesting. Not sure if the 5Div will be out by then, normally canon and Nikon have 4 years cycles at this level but if Canon do have a fantatsic new sensor they might do well to get it out early in a 5Dmk3 body without much modifications needed.

The D800 successor(D900) wont be out until 2016 if Nikon keeps it standard pace.

I don't think we will see a d900 (well at least not for 9 years as eldude said).

I'm expecting..
d3100 d3200 d3300 d3400...
D5100 d5200 d5300 d5400...
D7100 D7200 D7300 D7400...
D610, D620, D630, D640...
D810, D820, D840, D850...
D4s, D5, D5s, D6, D6s,...

Perhaps I'm wrong though, but I don't see where else Nikon can go while keeping some kind of symmetry/order in it's product naming scheme. MK1 2 3 4 5 6 is a much better naming scheme.

You might be right because Nikon is running out of naming space but this makes Nikon's marketing even harder to follow. How do you know if a camera update is a minor midlife refresh (s models, D610,D810) or a new model?

I could see them using this scheme if they maintained the s nomenclature and had the D800s instead of the D810 because then the next model will be the D810, with a refresh to D810s etc.

Nikon are pretty screwed whatever they do I think.
Off-topic, i'm sorry...

Only watched the first few seconds but interesting that you mentioned a steadicam for your DSLR. We have a very good one - £500+ - and haven't used it in probably over 2 years, whether that's weddings or corporate work. You may have watched them but none of our wedding or corporate showreels used a steadicam at any point.

Most people jump to a steadicam (because it makes them feel pro) but getting used to controlling the camera naturally is much better. Further to that, unless you get a £1k+ chest harness system then decent steadicams weigh an absolute ton and with one hand taken don't allow you to manually adjust focus and/or exposure, and rubbish ones both weigh a lot and don't do anything anyway. Or, just use a tripod.

I ordered a LAING P-04 as the youtube reviews were quite positive. I also liked that it was relatively light.
The below video was apparently made with one, and I quite liked the smooth movement (probably best to start about half way through).

I'll see how I get on...

Have to say I'm thoroughly enjoying my D810. I think it's much more forgiving for hand-held photography, and the boost in AF performance is very much welcomed. For landscapes I really like the native ISO64, and Liveview performance is superior to the D800/E.

On paper it may not look that significant an upgrade to the D8XX series, but in my opinion it definitely is.

I only carry a maximum of 3 lenses during a wedding.
36mp + AA less + 85 is my 85-200. I rarely need such a lens but when I do, I would shoot it with the 85 and crop. If I need to crop allot I would stop the lens to 2.8 for tack sharp pixel level files.

The 28 1.8 and 85 1.8 are much lighter than the F1.4's while just as optically good, and are my alternatives for when my feet hurt, and I'm aching all over after running around all day. Recently sold the 28 now though and replaced it with the 35 1.8 that's in the post.

Regarding the 105, I'm not really into macro, and even when I do.. I just use extension tubes.
