Hi,

Currently on AOL, and I am seriously thinking about switching over to Nildram.

Has anyone had any experience with them?

Whats there contention rate like?

Is set-up easy?

Do I need to get anything else?

Yes. They're pretty good, but I've got a business account with them so go through my account manager when I want things doing rather than their technical support peons - have a look on ADSLguide's BBS: http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=nildram

If you have difficulty changing a username and password over, you shouldn't be using the net ;)

No idea - would help if you were a bit more specific :p I'm guessing you have ADSL already...

setup will be like
1.modem gets delievered to your door OR you use your own again.
2.remove AOL software (if not already done)
3.install software for modem (if not already done)
4.goto network connections and create a new connection
5. enter username and password into that connection and browse using internet explorer.
about as simple as. there is probably instructions on nildrams website for this most of them do some sort of quick guide to setting up you connection.
as for contention i'd have thought it'd be 50:1

Thanks for the replies, appreciated.

Does set-up cost, I thought i read somewhere £47 for set-up plus £xx whatever per month?

Yes, according to the Nildram webssite, you can do a test which does says im ok. But in all honesty id be happy with 1mbps. Out of curisouty what does 'migrate aol' actually mean?

Your exchange has ADSL broadband.

Our initial test on your line indicates that you should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate of 2Mbps, 1Mbps, 512Kbps or 256Kbps.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

Thank you for your interest.

You'll get 2mbit then no problem.

Just phone AOL and ask for your MAC code (migration authorisation code), then place an order with Nilly - may be worth phoning up to make sure they order it as a Broadband Modify order (i.e. regrade you to 2mbit at the same time).

Been using Nildram for over a year. 2mb service currently. Pretty content with it - nice pings for online gaming, good tech support, and speeds near enough what they should be.

well it shoulnt take longer than a day i've read. i dont know if that's across all ISP's or was just for the certain ISP.

But the modem would be have to be delivered, correct? or can I use my ucrrent USB ADSL BT Voyager bit of kit. In honesty i would want something diffrent. Bit tempermental at times.

Edit: Can I also keep my AOL E-Mail account by accessing it via www.aol.co.uk?

yea you could just use your standard modem, if its a migration i presume they'll despatch the modem (if you chose one) asap.
as for the aol email i'd email them asking about that im not 100% sure.
