NIN

I went through a stage a few years back of trying to get into NIN. I bought a few albums, randomly, from FOPP and was left very underwhelmed. There were albums full of mixes, albums full of crappy dance-esq music and then the odd good song.
Ministry are far, far better.

I bought a bunch of their albums, and not was amazing or anything like the hype that fans claim it is.

Well if you think it was dance-esque music then you can only have bought the remix albums. It's hardly just fans who think they're great, NIN are one of the most critically acclaimed alternative bands around. The Downward Spiral regularly appears in the top albums of all time list (and isn't "dance-esque")

The Downward Spiral or The Fragile. First is a bit more accessible, second is Trent's best work imo.

There isn't an album they have done that i don't like.

Big Radiohead fan myself.

I would suggest listening to some Depeche mode albums as well:

For something that influenced Reznor & is a bit more hard edged DM, why not try early Skinny Puppy, the Bites/Remission album.

So far, best album I have found from NIN is 'With Teeth'

Every track is great and really well crafted.

Also 'Pretty Hate Machine' seems good as well.

The Fragile
The Downward Spiral
Pretty Hate Machine
Year Zero
With Teeth
The Slip

Ignoring EPS and remix stuff.

Il give the fragile another listen, but it seemed to me during the first listen like it was just soundscapes, hardly any singing.
