What is it with my local postman and his inclination to post one of those red cards without so much as knocking first? Something tells me that if I had caught him in the act, he probably wouldn't have had the package anyway!

What did I pay first class postage for again? I now have to wait 24 hours before attempting to collect the item from my local or depot, or arrange for the item to be redelivered the day after tomorrow!

If said postman was truly ninja your package would be there signed for open and ready to use and your bowels would most likely be spilled all over the floor before you'd even knew what happened.

I have actually caught my postman doing exactly that...and they didn't have the parcel..it was left in the van, he had to go and get it and was very apologetic. It hasn't happened since.

Same thing happens in my area as well, I have made so many complaints. Some times he leaves packets out side of the door when we are not at home.

Couriers have done this to me before too, they sneak up, put the card in and then leave. Sometimes they don't even bother putting the card through, and just say they have.

If they haven't got the parcel with them or in a van round the corner, then there is no need to wait the 24 hours as it will be still at the sorting office where he didn't bother to pick it up.

My postman knocks on the door then legs it down the garden because the dog barks.

Doesn't matter how many times I tell him I always shut the dog in the bedroom before I open the front door, he still does it.

Can't blame him really. Imagine how many dogs have attacked him :p

You're probably right.

My old postman was awesome he had a supply of biscuits in case of dog attack, my dog liked him :)

Our postman plays the same game. My wife and I have often both been in and we get cards without the doorbell even ringing. I think half the time they can't be bothered to put the packages in their trolley. I am sure their are still brilliant postmen but they don't work where I live.

You live in Scotland!

And Aberdeen was voted as the 2nd best place to live in the UK behind London last year in the Mercer survey and something like 59th best in the world (London in the 30s) ;)

I wasn't talking about Aberdeen, currently in Beds :)

Sorry about the mail link it was the first that came up. I will give money to an anti-fascist charity and flagellate myself as penance.

Just noticed this: Scotland’s highest rating in the list is Aberdeenshire in 178th position

Top of a midden is still a midden. ;)

Daily Mail link (as you've said)...... Doesn't count for me :p

Anyway, Aberdeen City isn't part of Aberdeenshire, it's a separate place on it's own, so that survey and DM link are not actually looking at Aberdeen itself. And world survey > some UK survey and DM link :D

Surrey is a lovely place though and certainly somewhere I'd live if/when I come down London way.

Off topic tangent in full swing :D

It does not make sense why a courier would drive up to your house in a van with a card to post to you but not your parcel. Where is the sense in that?

As for postmen I call BS on the majority of the stories where the postie did not have the parcel on him. Again what sense is it for the postie to have your parcel in front of him at the sorting office to then write out a bunch of "not in" cards to take with him? They would just be making more work for themselves and they are not that stupid.

The most of the UK Royal Mail depots are using the van share scheme so they have the ability to take the parcels, also with Royal Mail changing the face of their parcel system in April they will be more equipped to deal with the amount of parcels that gets but through the RM system.
