I'll start with this,

GCN graphics with at least 1536 GCN 'Updated' cores.
4GB / 8GB HBM Memory. (Improved performance / reduced power consumption)
Internal HDD at least 500GB.
If platform is portable and home console. Flash card game storage over BluRay alternative, faster install / load times. Updates / Game Saves straight to cart if needed.
4 X USB Ports.
Improved Online / Shop environment.

The console must compete with Xbox one and PS4 in terms of power. Otherwise Nintendo will continue to flop in the home console market.

I would say anything above those two consoles in terms of power will gather some interest. Before anyone bashes, I own a Wii U, I think the biggest issue is Nintendo being unable to get real third party support. Their first party games are awesome but overpriced and also few and far between.

I don't know how Nintendo have lasted so long with poor third party support considering it killed the dreamcast.

A proper control pad

Nintendo have always offered a "proper" control pad, just not necessarily as the primary device.

Are we expecting a return to relatively sanity with the NX, or another left-field differentiator? I wouldn't be at all surprised if they rolled out some sort of VR solution.

A proper control pad
WiiU has the pro controller, Wii had the classic, GC had a standard controller, N64 had a standard controller and gave birth to analogue control and rumble, SNES has the best standard controller ever invented, NES pad was ideal but was still a proper control pad, even their game and watch series had proper controls....
Wanna help me out here? I'm really struggling to see your point.

I would like to see Nintendo taking the Android route so we can install our own apps/games, the play store for example.

Oh yay, another XBone/PS4. Just what we need!

Why not, competition makes the others better.

Nintendo are hardly shifting these gimmicky units.

They are in danger of doing themselves out of the home console market. The old if you can't beat them, join them moto springs to mind.

I see them going back to the console norms in an attempt to bring back the arket lead to themselves. Kinda like a Dreamcast-esque recovery, just hopefully one that works.

if they could combine some sort of portable system that is TV compatible for around £150-200 with a game at launch i think it would be a massive hit.

somthing along the lines of the 3DS with dual analogue but with some sort of compatibility with a docking station making it playable on the TV, possibly all the hardware in the portable but with an upscaler or stored higher res textures in the dock to allow you to play the same game in HD on the TV with a standard contoller.

i cant see it happening but it would be interesting... sort of like the neo geo x unit but y'know.... good??

That would be cool, I'd like something like that.

Nintendo are so far behind in terms of online and multimedia, and they haven't had good third party support on their home consoles since the SNES. I can't really forsee a situation where they can actually compete directly with Microsoft and Sony any more without some serious help.

They need to carve their own path, find something that works for them. Cheap and maybe portable would my guess.

I've never been a Nintendo fan but I would like a "back to basics" console- two analogue sticks, no touch pad, no motion sensors, no second screen, limited multimedia and no social media apps, and good quality third party games. The "thing" that makes it different from the xbone and ****poor being the power and smaller size (I'm thinking GameCube size). The lack of the ancillary bs that I listed above would hopefully dock £50 off the price, launching at £200.

I'd just like a game console. then might be tempted!

You've more or less described the Wii U? All right, you may not get on with the pad, but the pro pad isn't too expensive. Don't connect it to the internet and you have a basic console.

Nintendo can really afford to smash sony and Microsoft on the power front, but why would they make such a stupid move?

Their handheld sales are fantastic so they will leverage that in some way for this new platform.

Dem third party apps doe...

Nintendo have more money than MS and Sony put together. That's why they can afford to make all these gimmicks and take sacrifices.

They want to stand out and not be another COD machine.
