Hi all, or should I say bledd lol

I want to add some extra files to the cd, like ms virtual pc, steam installer etc, but how do I add them to the iso which nlite creates? and where should I put them?

Ta

hi mate :p

you've got to find the switches for the programs to do 'silent installs' for them

vpc will probably be..

"vpc.msi /qn"

you can either search on msfn for an addon (can add it using nlite's hotfix function then), or can place it on $OEM$\Install\vpc.msi, then you'll need to add an entry to a file called cmdlines.txt to start a runonceex

read through these links and it'll make more sense, thats where i learned about it

cheers dude. Sounds like hard work lolz. Might just put the setup files on the disk itself. Can nlite allow you to add files to the disk and add them to the iso for you?

edit: just read the links :)

after running nlite, just make a folder called "Install" inside the $OEM$ folder that nlite makes, this folder will be copied to C:\Install

you can then manually run them

download them from the manufacturer, use 7zip to extract the drivers from the exe or zip file, should contain a txtsetup.oem file if you're doing sata or raid drivers

or you could use double driver to copy your current drivers to a folder and integrate some of them (not all drivers integrate 100% correctly, due to poorly written inf files with the drivers)

i tend just to add network driver and sata driver, (maybe display and sound if its not on my gaming pc)

Off topic but I tried an nLite install today. I added my drivers and removed crap and made the install unattended. I also set my screen res and refresh rate yet when I installed Windows and ran it the screen res was 640x480. If you're on MSN sometime this week bledd perhaps we can work out what I'm doing wrong?

I think I need to start understanding a VMware setup so I can test my nLite before I screw around with my installs.

nLite is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I've done countless installs with nLite and it gets very easy. If any of you need help just PM for my MSN add.
Er you can't PM on OcUK forums. I've done a few installs with nLite now but my main gripe is the fact that I don't seem to be able to get XP to run at 1280x1024@75Hz from the off.

I tried vmware but found I got mouse lag when in the virtual machine. I now use MS Virtual PC and find it much better :)

Mine doesnt seem to accept the new res details either

Is MS Virtual PC available as a free download demo? I might give it a try.

Interesting. I thought I was doing something wrong. Are you using DriverGrabber to get your drivers? That is what I use to get mine to integrate into nLite. All I want to do is integrate my drivers, add in the RyanVM pack, remove some rubbish and make the install automatic. Not exactly the most advanced nLite install but trying to do it 5 or 6 times now and it never seems to work.:(

Whats the RyanVM pack do? Havent added that to mine.

And yes virtual pc is free :)
Adds all of the post-SP2 updates released by MS into your XP install so that instead of having to download and install 73 updates like I has to last night, you are pretty much up-to-date with updates saving time on Windows Updates but also meaning PC is a bit safer from the off.

you need to remove the current video drivers and integrate your ati or nvidia driver to get the res working

best way to test is by doing real installs if you can (use an old hard drive or something) (vmware installs doesn't use your hardware, just emulates new hardware)

Check and check. I use DriverGrabber to get all my drivers. I then integrate them. Further on I remove the video drivers because I've added my own.

You'll have to try harder than that to catch me out bledd.;)

does the gfx driver integrate ok? -as in does it get detected ok on first boot

if not then download it from ati/nv, then use 7zip to extract the driver

When you say first boot do you mean in Windows? If so no is the answer. I get the "New hardware detected, driver install" window. It sometimes finds a driver but finds 2, presumably because of the WDM feature on my card so I have to choose. It then installs some drivers but loses one so I have to search through about 20 folders looking for it. Then I go through the same for the WDM.

extract the driver using 7zip as above then, these driver backup tools are not always the best..

they work better for network cards and the like usually

OK I'm trying it out now. So if I setup MS Virtual PC can I test the install on that?
