Hi all

iv had my pc setup for a while now but today I just clicked the Intel rapid storage technology icon in the bottom right of my screen and iv noticed that their is no accelerate tab anymore.

im sure when I set the pc up that I accelerated my SSD, but how can I make sure?
also why isn't their a accelerate tab anymore?

my current setup is

1 x Samsung EVo 840 pro SSD - os is installed

2 x 1 TB hard-drives in a RAID

Isn't the Intel Accelerate tab available when your OS is installed on a non-SSD and you install an unused SSD into the system? That's what I did with my nephew's PC recently (I had a spare 40GB SSD, so chucked that into his system with a 2TB OS drive).

Are you thinking of the Accelerate available in the Samsung Magician software for your SSD?

well when I set my pc up at first, the accelerate tab was their because I clicked it so accelerate my SSD which has my OS on

but now its not their I bet it disappears when you click it and accelerate a drive

anyway does anybody know how I can tell if accelerate is switched on or off

Actually on my PC now, so I've been able to actually poke around Intel RST. The only accelerate option within RST is to use a small SSD to accelerate a Windows install on a normal HDD. To do this, you need the BIOS to be set to RAID for the Intel ports, then have both the HDD with the Windows installation and the SSD on these ports. You then get the Accelerate option showing when you select the SSD as it shows here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/248828/how_to_setup_intel_smart_response_ssd_caching_technology.html

Intel's RST acceleration only works with SSDs up to 64GB, anything bigger and it'll only let you use a portion of the SSD for acceleration.

It sounds to me a lot more like you've used the Samsung Magician software to accelerate your SSD. Open the Samsung Magician software and go to the "Rapid Mode". This will tell you if RAPID mode is currently enabled or not on your SSD. Here's a screenshot of it running on my system:

Just had another thought, wonder if you originally saw some proprietary option within RST that only shows if you're running an Intel SSD? Did you run an Intel SSD before your bought your current Samsung one?

Hi

No iv never had an intel ssd, iv only ever owned this samsung ssd, this is my first ever SSD
. Yes rapid mode is enabled in samsung magician could that stopping the acceleration option appearing in rst
IV just re downloaded rst and a new tab has appeared called performance which has never been their before.

I know I can have my OS on the SSD and accelerate it as people in this forum told me I could. Somebody went through all the steps with me so I know it works. Just seems odd the acceleration tab has disappeared now

see I do not get that message on the status tab here are a few screenshots of my system

as you can see in this screenshot I don't have that acceleration message in the status tab

ye for some reason in computer management for my SSD it says

system reserve - 100mb

c: - 238.38GB NTFS healthy ( boot, page file, crash dump, primary partition)

that's normal system reserved has the boot record on it

I meant create a 60gb separate partition, then you might be able to use it to cache with

Your system looks set up perfectly to me. Your SSD is running at the best speed it can.

The 100MB section is always created when Windows installs itself onto an SSD (based on my personal experience of several dozen Windows 7 Home/Pro installs on 4 different types of SSD - Intel, Crucial, Samsung, Kingston). There must be a reason for it, but I've never looked into why it does it.

ok, what is the best way of my creating the partition on the SSD drive as iv never created partitions

also what is the difference between intels RST and samsungs magicians rapid mode as that's currently enabled

in windows disk manager, just shrink the ssd by 60gb and don't format it or it wont show up in rst

(im not sure it will let you cache as ive never tried it from the os drive)

no you kinda like reserve 60gb so you can cache the raid array,so ssd with os on and 60gb(partition) accelerating the raid array

thank you, so with all this intel rapid storage thing, does or is it suppose to speed up the hard drives or the actual SSD im well confused with it all

im just confused as to why I don't see the acceleration tab

you don't see it cos you have the os installed on the ssd

to cache it needs to be on the raid drives and the ssd blank/no data on it

Intel RST is designed to use a small SSD to provide quicker access to files frequently used on a normal HDD. It's not designed to make an SSD itself any quicker. Samsung's RAPID mode is designed to make an SSD quicker by setting aside a small part of the SSD as an ultra-high speed SSD.

ah I see thank you for that thgats made more sense to me now

so the system uses the SSD to speed up access to files on the HDDS

and samsungs rapid mode is just samsungs own way os speeding up the SSD

thank you
