No display on new build

Going on from my other thread I rebuilt my PC with the new mobo, cpu and RAM tonight and while now the CPU fan spins up I still get no display? I don't understand this now!

I've got:

i5 2500K
Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3
8GB G.Skill 12800 (2x4GB)

I have tried swapping the GTX460 with a spare GFX card and still get no display but the spare is an old X550 PCIE card which I don't know works or not anyway.

The only thing remaining in the PC which is the same really is the PSU and HDDs but I've tried without the HDDs as well.

One thing to note, the Zalman cooler fan is quite big and obstructs the first RAM slot so I am using slots 2 and 4 for the RAM instead of 1 and 2, could this affect it maybe? Or maybe a compatibility issue with this RAM and this mobo... :/

I can swap the RAM at the shop tomorrow for normal Corsair if it is indeed the RAM as the Corsair ramsinks do not stick out as much so should allow fitting between the cpu fan but it's still a bit of a faff :/

I assume the PSu is fine as well as it powers everything else up fine, it is an OCZ M600.
 
Before someone else jumps in with, "try resetting the CMOS." Try resetting the cmos :p.

Also, disconnect all hard drives and expansion cards. Remote one ram module. Leave one module in slot 2. Then try and boot with only the mobo, 24pin and 6pin atx (you did connect the 6 pin for the cpu right?)

Any post beeps at all?

Edit: Leave graphics card in also.
 
Yup reset the CMOS already and still nothing. No beeps either and the Phase LEDs do come on although only 1 green light. The 6 pin is also in aye.

Not tried with 1 RAM stick yet although I think I will swap the RAM anyway as I do want to be able to use slots 1 and 3 down the line.
 
Sounds to me like motherboard failure, I had this issue once and it turned out the bios wasn't pushed in fully, So that could be something to try. But saying that it could also be ram playing up so that could also be something to try.
 
GFX power (both!) is connected, the extra 8 pin on the top left of the mobo is also connected.

I don't know about mobo failure though, it's possible I guess but I won't know until I try using different RAM.

Actually I will swap the mobo for another brand tomorrow as well as the RAM, that will confirm RAM or MOBO issues I guess and save a potential extra trip!

Not noticed the BIOS not pushed in properly issue though!

Maybe this is a new thing... who knows.... BUT! How can you push a "bios" in. Am I missing something here lol.
 
The bios chips can be removed on some mobos :p

Checking mine though it appears fixed anyway!

Really? You learn something new everyday. I seen somewhere some mobos had a "mem ok" button somewhere and that had to be pushed in some instances... does that apply?

Think it may just be Asus however.
 
Alright!

I'm going to swap this mobo and RAM for : MSI P67A-G45 (B3 revision) & 4x2GB Corsair XMS3 (9-9-9-24). It actually works out a bit cheaper than the 2x4GB G.Skill.

Here's hoping this time it all works..... I can't gauge how much the cooler fan is going to obstruct the first RAM slot though so not sure if I should change that too :/
 
Too late now :p I have an MSI P67A G45 in the boot with 4 sticks of XMS3 :p

They let me check if the Zalman would block the RAM socket too and it is an almost exact fit so the XMS will be AOK here methinks.

I checked the GSkill website and they do list the P67A-UD3 but not the B3 revision so maybe it was RAM all along?

Either way, I'd rather not spend another sprint up the M27 during my lunch hour :p
 
Easy now, i don't get home from work until 6PM :p

Well things are still not good and I am close to punching a baby!

There is some light shining at the end of this narrow tunnel though.

I still got no display but all fans spinning etc on the new mobo and RAM, I tried 1 stick of RAM< 1 HDD, no HDD and my spare X550 GFX card and still nothing so I tried a spare Antec 450watt PSU that I had lying around, it does not have an 8pin mobo power connector but only a 4 pin one so I plugged it in anyway as the 8pin header had 2 pins covered by a snap in cover so I assumed the 4 pin was usable if the PSU is up to scratch but didn't expect much from this PSU anyway.

Now, with this spare PSU I did get a mobo beeping noise (2 low beeps and one high beep) whereas with my OCZ M600 I was not getting anything at all.

Now I need some backing up here, I am under the impression now that the OCZ PSU had failed over night and took the old mobo and CPU with it as things started getting toasty. Maybe a set of rails in the PSU have gone bust or something I don't know but the fact that the microspeaker on the mobo beeps with the spare PSU indicates the OCZ could very well be the problem? It's the last thing remaining.

It was bought in 09.2009 so I'm going to see if it's still under warranty and if it is then tomorrow buy a new PSU (not OCZ any more lol) and test that. if that works then RMA the PSU and sell it on ebay or something.

I also prefer the MSI mobo over the Gigabyte. The fan header layout is better and it looks nicer too.
 
Just want to give thanks to all those who helped, I am now back baby!

I didn't even need to reinstall Windows, quite a huge shift going from P45 to P67 and i5 too. Everything is running great, just had to install chipset and USB3 drivers and that was it. Configuring Windows updates now as I missed patch Tuesday and also re-activating Windows 7. I think this is mainly due to my almost anal maintenance schedule of my OS :p

The latest Coretemp shows these temps @ 4GHz:

(I am using the XMP profile btw, have set the RAM voltage to 1.507v in the BIOS)

Did I mention how much I love Windows 7? :D

I am noticing Windows is a lot snappier, stuff is loading near instantly, not SSD instant but as instant as a HDD can manage. I also notice only CPU-Z is able to report the actual cpu speed, Coretemp and Windows still report 3.33GHz.

Also, never before have I seen such a pretty "BIOS", LOL, you can even use the mouse!!

I've not seen any bugs yet, just backing the BIOS to USB stick takes ages but that's my own usage really :p

MSI have several BIOS updates out too for this board so they appear to be on top of bugs and compatibility as well.

Overclocking is so easy too although I imagine OCing Sandybridge on any BIOS is easy :p

Oh and 4.5GHz now :d

Surely you've seen my maintenance taskbar folder? :D
