Off topic but didnt want to create another thread.

The next step of the process requires me to use the monitor right?
Ive plugged the monitor into the power, works. However I have connected it to motherboard via VGA socket using a VGA cable.

No pciture comes up and monitor is on standby. The monitor is:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-062-AC&groupid=17&catid=949&subcat=

If I press Auto it allows me to choose DVI or D-SUB. Since its not a DVI cable im using a choose D-SUB. But it always says "no signal" and then goes into stanby.

Ive put the CD that contains drivers and onboard manual into the pc but again nothing happens on the screen.

Can anyone help me??

To answer the questions first:

Yes I plugged the aux power into the mobo, it was a 4 pin rather than an 8 pin so i assume that is normal though?

Yes the MSI OC 6850.

Now I tried the HDMI connection on the 6850 on my TV and signal comes through from the PC.

But when I use the mobo's VGA connection on either the monitor or the TV nothing comes through.

BTW monitor supports HDMI and DVI.
TV supports HDMI and VGA.
GPU supports HDMI and DVI.
And mobo does all above.

The only problem is I do not have a DVI cable yet.

Full spec is:

Okay so a little bit about problem.

Its a new pc, took 6 hours to put it together so hopefully i didnt make a bad error.

When monitor or tv is connected to the onboard GFX nothing appears on the screen apart from "No Display/signal"

When connected via GPU, writing appears on screen.

Is the motherboard broken, should I re-do the cables etc etc??

Are you using an adapter by chance to convert the DVI on the GPU to VGA?

Try both DVI ports. One will be dual link which is digital and can't be converted for VGA.

I havent been able to run VGA from the DVI on the GPU but I can find an adapter somewhere in the house probarbly if you suggest it?

How do I try the DVI ports without a DVI cable?

Okay good news! I have converrted the DVI on the GPU to VGA. And it works! :)
My guess is the onboard graphics isnt working? :/

The writing that pops up says "Reboot and selcect proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

So far I have a USB mouse and keyboard plugged in.

I hate this PC -_-

I enter BIOS but almost immediately it is overwritten by the "Reboot and select..." -_-

Hmmm this is wierd.

I changed the multiplier to 38.
Changed the RAM to 16 (1600mhz)
Changed the boot order to USB.

All it says is it failed to load BIOS or the BIOS isnt working properly (something along those lines).

Confused now.

You wont get anything from on-board GPU, when you have a GPU installed and that probably what the bios is set to run from first.

This. As far as I know, GPU disables on board graphics unless you use Lucid Virtu, google it :p

Shouldn't have really changed the multiplier until you had the PC up and running for a while to make sure everything is stable, then overclock. Change that back and see what happens

Ive changed it ans still nothing. Ive changed everything to boot from the USB stick first which is where my Windows 8 is located, however the board doesnt seem to recognize its existence after you close down the BIOS (with changes saved)!

Okay, did you change any other BIOS settings?

Tried a different USB port? Which one are you using, a case USB or motherboard USB?

Checked with another PC that Windows 8 IS actually on the USB stick?

I'm no expert, just trying to give you some tips of things to try before an expert comes along who will help more :p

How much Hono? :p

Ive gone into BIOS features and changed the boot options and properties god knows how many times...

Ive tried motherboard and case USB ports.
Ive even checked in the BIOS that windows 8 is on there!
No other changes made other than ones affecting USB's and booting order

Well you didn't mention formatting the USB stick to be bootable, so......how much have you got to lose? ;)
