No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

I like the way on Steam it shows "User reviews: Mixed"

Kind of tempted to buy it as on principle I kind of like to encourage smaller studios and so on to do stuff outside the box and not just hashing out commercially safe games but pretty sure I will get very bored or frustrated with it. They really really should have launched it as a £19.99 game.

I think it is fair tbh, some people are having major issues. I would be irritated too. It also isn't some peoples cup of tea. For me, in the age of rehash after rehash of games like cod it is a refreshing change and hopefully something for them to build on in the future e.g. A sequel with more financing. I love the concept and it will be perfect unwinding for me after work. I agree though, somewhere around the £20 mark, as it was pre Sony, would be more reasonable. That said it would still take a tonne of stick, so can't blame them for the price hike.

Bought this on Steam on Sunday to get a good day playing it. Kept crashing to desktop after the No Man's Sky intro. Turns out my old graphics card is too old, needs to OpenGL 4.5 :(

Looking at replacements now, first time I've had to upgrade due to a missing feature. Normally it's because the game is so damn slow or low res it's rubbish to play.

There is a work-around posted on Reddit for this. Not sure how well it works. I have the same issue (I have xfire 6970s) but I found it after Steam refunded me.

I'd buy it today if it was £20, I love relaxing games but £40 is simply too much based on the current gameplay I've seen and feedback (but positive and negative). I think I'd enjoy it but not at that price point so I'll wait.

I do think most people will get 40 hours out of it, £1/hour if they enjoy that experience is fine tbh especially as many will have paid £30 for much shorter games.

I understand why it would be boring for some, it all depends on what you want out of games.

I personally love the fact that there's no "path to follow" and it lets you go about the mission as you please. I am just trying to learn the languages of the alien races right now. After that I don't know yet.

This is what i'm doing at the moment, i've had a fully fuelled hyper drive for a while but i won't go to my next system until i've learnt more about the Gek race....

It's a nice relaxing game to play, until you get attacked by some pirates (which has happened on a few occassions). I got jumped whilst i was travelling back to the space station by 4 pirates.

My only complaint about the game so far is the UI, its too clunky to try and recharge your shields whilst in a dog fight!

I don't have a PS4 and my mate keeps banning on about but I'm not sure if my laptop will run it so hoping one of you guys can tell me.

Wont be wanting to run it on high specs for obvious reasons but will it even run on low ?

HP Pavilion g6-1220sa 15.6 inch Notebook (AMD Quad-core A8-3500M Processor, 6GB RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6620G Graphics,

It is on Win10 now.

I don't think the 6620G supports OpenGL 4.5. Only 4.4.

yeah it's why I don't want to come in and just poop on the game. It has some interesting bits and maybe in a few months they will sort out the issues and expand on the game a bit.

I like buying and supporting indie games but I think this is the first one that's cost this much but had such generic game-play elements. It feels like we are paying for the universe algorithm at the expensive of the rest of the game. Lesson to be learnt, hide the CC when drunk.

Ended up buying Subnautica (£14.99) using bit of the refund money from NMS. Feels miles more polished and was great fun right off the bat. Had some great moments/scares already!! Just dabbling with crafting now.

Oh wow am I missing the quit option or is it really just pressing alt+F4? and having to hold down the mouse to activate menu options even in settings is just ridiculous lol almost went for a refund just over that not sure if there is an option to change it but that is gonna be murder for anyone who suffers from RSI type stuff.

Exit is under options bottom right. Took me a while to find it the first time.

quit to desktop is under options..bizarre I know.

You can get round that.

The only work-around I can think of would be to trick the software into believing that 4.5 is being used, when in actuality it isn't.Or somehow skipping the process that checks and verifies which version is being used. Even then, I'd expect issues to arise because you'd still be running an unsupported version. I'd be interested to see a way of getting round it though, if you have a link.

Swearing in the original thread, but this is the information (not tested by myself since i have no need for it).

i found the tool that did exactly what we need , GLIntercept
Download and install GLIntercept "x64" to programfiles https://github.com/dtrebilco/glintercept/releases/download/1.3.3/GLInterceptx64_1_3_3.exe
Copy OpenGL32.dll from GLIntercept installation folder to the game binaries folder
Download this config file for GLIntercept https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17900579/gliConfig.zip
Extract the ini file in the archive downloaded to the binaries folder for the game
i edited it myself to disable logging and adding all opengl extensions and override opengl version to 4.5 & shader version language also to 4.5
EDIT : Formatting and clearer steps
EDIT 2 : please make sure that the installation path for GLIntercept is C:\Program Files\GLInterceptx64_1_3_3\ or change the ini manually to different location
EDIT 3 : Please make sure that the INI file extension is correct (not TXT or any other extension)
EDIT 4 : Zip file instead of INI to avoid extension issue
ENJOY !

Ah actually looked in there but for some reason thought it was another credits option without giving it a proper look as I wasn't really expecting it to be placed where it was.

Initial impression is the game has been pushed out a bit to quickly - lots of very basic quality of life improvements that would massively increase the user's impression of the game - even just trying to tweak settings initially was a massive chore due to it launching into the intro sequence on yet another new planet each time until I'd got things setup - like no one bothered to test the game :|
