No more btjunkie :-(

Can' be having the PQ with Netflix. I can't for the life of me see how people say it's HD. It's nowhere near a good x264 rip.

Give me a service with the latest films, true HD quality and surround sound at a decent price and I will happily give up newsgroups.

Not sure about the UK, but here in the US Netflix has steadily got better and better. When I started using it I got 720P, stereo and frequent re-buffering. Now it has 1080p on new stuff, 5.1 audio and I can't even remember the last time it had to re-buffer.

Is it?

I download movies often. I wouldn't pay to go and watch them, but the fact that I can download them for free and watch them on my mobile during the daily commute appeals. The studios have lost nothing because I would never have paid in the first place.

I download TV shows every week. I like the fact that I can download an entire Season of a new show from the US and just plough through it.

I don't do it to rebel, I do it because it's free, it's convenient and I can.

Oh o. But just because you can doesn't mean you should!! :D

Netflix has got the right idea. Why pirate stuff when Netflix is cheap, easy and legal?

Because services like these will never offer up everything people want to watch.

for an example, the anime/shows that would never ever get show in the west like the gaki no tsuka (batsu games) all done by fans, for other fans.

there would be no other way for people to watch these if it wasn't for fans, it's not about "stealing" it by downloading, it's for the simple fact they don't exsist in any other format watchable by a non Japanese speaker/reader.

if they sold a subbed/dubbed version of things i like to watch, sign me up i would rather have the quality, just it doesn't exist for EVERY single thing in the world

Original cartoon from The Oatmeal, had to censor it though due to the swear.

Maybe it's just me, but usenet can sometimes be a real PITA to use, finding good downloads/NZBs ect. Torrenting from TPB was so much easier, you could see if the torrent was good or not where as usenet can be a bit hit and miss most of the times in my case. Someone want to give me tips on using usenet?

Thepiratebay is an amazing thing. To be able to download straight to my phone, watch once and then delete is amazing. It's how I'm keeping up with Game Of Thrones :)

Edit: perfect posting time :D

So if HBO allowed you to watch Game of Thrones on any device, format and quality for a fee, would you still pay?

Hell yes.

If there was a service to watch anything, anytime, anywhere for a small fee then I would be the first to sign up. I use netflix, but it really isn't good enough.

have you not been following the news. This isn't the first site to go down recently on its own accord, after other sites have been arrested. That combined with new laws being pushed through. We aren't seeing a repeat of years ago, this is something new.
I bet newsgroups are loving it, they must be seeing a surge in subscriptions.
theres dozens and dozens of private torrent sites closing the known public ones stops your average joe whos not tech savvy though

Sadly the industry doesn't understand people want a 'buffet' of entertainment, even if it cost £10-20 per month and provided a guaranteed income for the company.

I will pay for netflix when it can compete with the level of service i get from usenet, it really isn't about cost.

I now use spotify as the level of service is better by far than downloading, when movies go the same way the world will be a better place for the industry, they only have themselves to blame.

Just to let you know, I am a private tracker user with access to one of the most exclusive ones in the world. So don't tell me I don't use torrents.

prove it, send me an invite ;):p

I never used btjunkie, i just use Piratebay or Demonoid for those Linux distros ;)
I have heard of newgroups, but have never used them, why pay when i can get what i want of a torrent site for free?

I certainly would, unfortunately they insist on sticking DRM on the downloads forcing you to use specific devices...

£20ish a month to be able to watch and download a wide selection of films and music would be excellent. I have been paying £10 a month for a music subscription but am thinking of giving it up and returning to my old ways as it's easier and I can play it on all my devices...

Exactly, once my alarm goes off in the morning my phone refreshes my private rss feed and I click to download the latest shows in HD. Once I'm out of the shower they're ready to watch on the train. There's currently no paid service which offers up to date content with that quality and convenience. If I could do that, and stream to my tv, I would pay it would be a no brainer.

Iplayer, netflix, sky on demand etc are all heading in the right direction at least.
