No signal when booting up, but fine in Windows

Hi guys,

I've had this problem for a while now (many years), but I've not needed to get in to my BIOS for a long time.

My PC is connected to my monitor via a DVI cable (assuming DVI-D). The graphics card is an X850 XT. When I boot up, the monitor searches for a signal, and only when Windows gets to the login box it actually shows an image.

I'm assuming my graphics card should output a signal for the monitor in DVI mode, but I can't figure out what I should do to fix it.

I know the VGA output on the card works, however I don't have a VGA cable any more to use!

Is there some sort of setting I might be missing?

Thanks,

Dave

could be your monitor is a bit slow at searching

when you boot up press F8 F12 del what ever it is on your board so it goes into the bios and wait a little see if it comes on. if not going to have to get a VGA lead

I forgot to mention, I've tried connecting the PC to my HDTV via a DVI=>HDMI cable, with no luck. It's definitely not a slow response.

Thanks,

Dave

have you tried pressing TAB when booting to show the details?

i no you have probably tried everything but you may have missed a really obvious one

happens sometimes

sounds like its booting from the secondary display output, i presume the vga is primary.
my x800 didn't have this issue booting from dvi..

does your motherboard have onboard graphics also - if so it might be init that first and sending early display here.

alternately your monitor might not support the bios resolution (tho that would be very odd)

Monitor definitely supports the resolution in VGA, so I'm assuming it'll support it in DVI.

The motherboard has no onboard graphics either.

I'll just have to borrow a cable from work for the evening next week.
