I have got a HDMI through my monitor and a dvi to hdmi dongle in the graphics card. The problem is i have no sound how do i resolve this?

i think they (the cards) are only able to pass audio through one of the outputs, so try the other dvi output. also, make sure the hdmi audio output is the default audio device

DVI supports sound? when did this happen?

Even if it did, the Graphics card cannot output sound, unless its over a pure HDMI connection, but even then (if you graphics card supports it) you would have to have a cable (internal spdif connector) running from an input on the graphics card to a header for audio out on the sound card or MOBO to add audio to the HDMI.

Edit, just seen that a special type of DVI can support sound on *some ATI cards, so youll probs need a new DVI cable, apparently you also have to set the graphics card as 'default audio device'.

no.

the ati's have, for some time now, had onboard audio devices. you dont need a different dvi cable, or a cable to the sound card, or a four leaf clover. all you need is a dvi-hdmi adaptor and and hdmi lead to the display and providing you have the audio settings correct, the display will get sound.

which has made me think, OP when you say no sound, are you trying to get sound out of the display or your speakers/amp/whatever?

right ok then, that means windows is probably defaulting to the gpu's sound decive instead of your sound card. you need to change the default device either way. right click on the little speaker icon in the system tray and select playback devices. if your soundcard isnt the default device, change it :)
