No issues with Q being gay, it's just his dialogue seemed very forced. He didn't have many lines at all, "he is due to arrive in 20mins".

There were many ways that could have said Q was having a date, but the whole (v short) scene was an agenda to have Q come out - it's been hailed as a landmark LGBTQ+ moment, really?!

Like i said, fine Q is gay, just seemed shoe horned in and took me out of the moment.
 
Surely a throwaway line is the opposite of shoehorning?

If they had written the movie whereby his boyfriend turns up and somehow helps move the plot on, because of his job or skills, then that would be shoehorning?
 
Well I think people would be complaining still (if not more) in the scenario I said.

They can't really win. If Q had said he had a woman coming over in 20 minutes nobody would care.
 
Saw it on Monday.

The fact they felt the need to kill him off is an insult to the 50+ year legacy of Bond imo. Probably just an excuse to reboot the whole franchise with someone playing the character that doesn't fit in with the books.

They've killed him off and now I feel they should stop making them now.

Many other things annoyed me but I won't go into them.

It was better than Spectre, but you are right that the villains motives were all really hazy.

Of course if you look back at Bond you will often find that villains are rubbish. Like 'Dominic' from Quantum of Solace, or 'Gustav Graves' from Die Another Day Admittedly those are awful movies in general though.

I enjoyed No Time to Die though. Can't really discuss it without spoilers, so:

The addition of the daughter gave the film some real jeopardy/stakes that Bond movies often struggle with. The whole 4x4 escape in Norway for example - Bond didn't have a gadget vehicle, he only had his pistol and there's a little girl in the back, things looked pretty bleak.

It was the first Bond where I can remember thinking "It feels like Bond could die" and then 30 minutes later they actually killed him. Say what you want about the Bond formula, but that's certainly unique!

It wasn't just Rami Malek's motives that were unclear - The CIA guy who killed Felix didn't make much sense either.

I think you need to ask yourself why your reaction is different to him saying "she is due in 20 minutes". Would you be posting about it on an internet forum afterwards? (The answer is no you wouldn't; that's exactly why they need to "shoe horn" in dialogue like this.)
 
Meh - it just felt forced to me.

I enjoy Bond for the espionage, the gadgets, the women, the locations, the cars etc - why does it have to become a vehicle for woke messages?

But i suppose this is the way of the world atm.
 
Watched it last night and yeah, was fairly meh about it. Opening sequence was great, lovely retro vibe throughout the film and good action scenes and gorgeous settings.

Agreed about the daughter, does give it a bit of real peril to it.

The whole thing with the new 007 was over played and became a real drag on the story in the middle 1/3.

Bad guy was very 1 dimensional, could understand motive in wiping out Spectre, but beyond that it was what is his motive here? Very muddled.

He ummm, wanted revenge on Mr. White so went to kill his family. But then ended up saving his daughter.
They had a connection because THEIR EYES MET....Then he was either some sort of paedo, or fell in love with her at some unspecified point when she was of legal age, despite not seeing her again until her turns up in her office.

Also he employs a scientist that wants to kill black all people (I'm sure he says "wipe out your race" before the former 007 lady kills him) but also wants to wipe out millions of people himself with a nanobot virus, for reasons unknown.

Basically it makes no sense.

Second viewing with my Son last night in Imax. Stood up well to a second watch and I noticed more details that slipped by me the first time.

I'm putting this third, behind CR and skyfall. That makes it sound like a bad film but its not, I think its a very good one :)
 
yes the characteristic inarticulation of Billie Eilish, plus lack of building momentum of the song compared to Skyfall or Casino Royale -
it doesn't capture the relentless aspect of Bond - maybe it matches the movie - which I haven't yet seen - but those songs stand on their own, too
