Noctua D15S vs AIO

Genuine question. If your main use is mainly gaming and general use, then is the extra money you are spending on a Ryzen 9 3900x and Gen 4 RAM worth it? You will see almost no frame rate increase or loading speed advantage by going that route.

If you have the cash, I would definitely stick with the 2080 ti GPU or whatever is the best at the time you make the leap. But I would seriously consider spending less on the CPU and RAM. Something like the Ryzen 7 3700x would be plenty, and Gen 3 RAM would give you the same performance and save you money. You could then also go for a B450 or 550 motherboard when they release, as again the benefit of a 570 motherboard is quickly diminished for just gaming.
At least that money would give more future proofness in 3900X than in 2080 Ti.
12 core will shred through games for long time without minimizing background software.
While that only 35-40% faster than full £1000 cheaper Radeon 5700 XT 2080 Ti will be shredded in performance in year or two.
Even next Xbox won't be that far behind it.

I get the future proofing angle. I did the same when I went for the i7 6700k rather than the i5 6600k. Also fully agree that it is better to wait for the next gen of graphics cards.

I still think I would aim for an 8 core CPU at the time rather than a 12 core if the main aim is gaming. The 3900x is only about 2% faster in games than the 3700x, and only 4% above the 3600x. So in terms of bang for your buck, it still seems excessive.

I am probably going to do another complete build when the next gen of CPUs and GPUs come out as I also want to downsize my whole system. Thinking about my original decision between the i5 and i7, I would probably of gone i5 in hindsight. Maybe if my upgrade was still another 3 years away, the i7 would still make more sense.

Each to their own however.

the way I look at it is that the 3900x is within my budget so why not get the best I can within my budget which is the 3900x, infact if I wanted I can afford the 3950x but don't want to

that's why I thought get the 3900x for future proofing and the 2080ti is just a place holder until next gen gpus are available
Buying the most expensive class gpu available at a given time isn't holding for the next gen.

If it's what you want, go for it (if I had the cash, I'd love one!), but the thinking there isn't quite right.
