Noisey case fan.

Hey all, I've currently got an akasa blue-LED fan blowing air out the back of my case. Because of the airflow through the gauze it's quite noisey.
The fan itself is attached to the bottom of my motherboard.
I'm planning on getting a fan controller in the near future, once I've collected all the other little add-ons I want, but i'm looking for a temporary solution to try and slow the fan down so it's not as noisey.

Does anyone know if there are any programs that would allow me to reduce the power to the fan or anything similar?

Many thanks.

(I need to clean my heatsink's fan :o)

The 7 and 5 volt mods are extremely easy to do just label it properly so you dont end up plugging it into your hard drive.

Wrap two rubber bands around the fan so they cushion any contact between the case and the fan.

Half a centimetere of distance between the fan and the grid should reduce any remaining noise.

Speedfan is supposed to be able to control fan speed though my motherboard doesnt seem to support this even on 3 pin fans

I wouldn't be able to do any soldering or cut out the mesh because my pc's at uni. I don't have the tools available to me, which is why I was wondering about any programs that may reduce the volts. It's on a 3 pin connector at the bottom of the motherboard.

He asks for software to control fanspeed, and no-one shouts 'SpeedFan'?

Unfortunately if its anything like the 120mm versions thats a rubbish fan for noise, speedfan will help but won't silence it completely.
Also, you might want to introduce that system to a vaccume cleaner.

You could get some 80mm nexus's (nexus, nexi?) but their airflow is poor, i just bought one today. Panaflo would probably be better.
And as mentioned, cut the grills out. Replace them with standard circular ones if need be.

7volt mod does not involve soldering, you need a safety pin at most
I second that, and if they're 3 pin fans then just use a 3-4 pin converter. BTW don't volt mod the PSU connector as you may end up plugging it into something else. Just modify the fan connector.
