Noisy PSU fan, attempt repair or replace under warranty?

The PSU in question: http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/gx-series/gx-550w/ (Purchased Jan 2011, so 7 months of the 5 year warranty remaining.)

The fan is rattling quite severely, it's intermittent in nature though, only occurs after the PC has been on a few minutes. When it does start it's loud, but it comes and goes.

If I go the warranty option how thoroughly are they likely to test it? Be frustrating if they start it for a minute and declare it's fine. The alternative is replacing the fan but that means removing the PSU from the case anyway, so might as well RMA, plus if I open it I lose the remaining warranty.

PS I confirmed the fan was at fault by using a plastic nib to stop it, so it's not vibration in the case.

If you send it away for RMA and you have to send it to Europe then you could end up paying half of what the psu is worth. If they send you the current version as a replacement it's worse than the one you have now. Yours has 528w on the 12v rail and the current version only has 504w on the 12v rail. If it was me I would either replace the fan or buy a decent replacement.

I had this dilemma with a Corsair TX PSU a while ago.
I opted for me the easiest option which was to change the fan my self.
I chose a noiseblocker fan https://www.overclockers.co.uk/prod...01&catid=2331&sortby=nameAsc&subid=&mfrid=506.
Bear in mind though if you decide to do this your self you will need to solder the connector plug/lead from the old fan onto the new one. PSU's now a days don't seen to use the standard 3 pin connector.
Also when choosing a fan make sure you choose one with the correct rpm, other wise the replacement may be running too fast and noisy, or too slow.
