Because they don't want to put their future in the hands of one of their rivals.

Or, rather they are backing the only two completely open* mobile operating systems, which is really quite admirable.

Also worth adding 6300 to the list of solid Nokia phones :)



* Although, before the flaming starts, Android is pretty much open enough :)
 
Its a revamped version of the OS, its still pretty crap though.

How do you know that?

OK the code is available, but a handset is not yet pubicly available so judgement has to be reserved surely.

A guy I speak to on another forum has been trying to develop S3 for a Samsung I8910 and it is not going well because the hardware drivers simply don't exist and S60 5th drivers cannot be used.

That seems to suggest its not re-vamped but a totally new set of code.

Also all applications for S3 are being developed within Qt which is a huge step in the right direction.

The graphics and networking architectures have both changed substantially in Symbian^3.

If anyone fancies writing apps for Qt/Symbian^3, the new Nokia Qt SDK is a big step forward.
