Nokia N95 8Gb or HTC TyTN II

I disagree, imo its the HTC Tytn II, but I guess it depends what you expect from a phone.

I would say upfront i am an HTC fanboy to disarm anyone who wishes to shout it later..

But i use the GPS on my tytnII daily (tom-tom) its fast, effective, and has a great screen and loud speaker if you like voice directions. I dont ever really remember waiting for it to lock on?! I get in the car, stick it in the cradle, launch TT, and by the time i have got out of my parking space it knows where i am :D It has a cool utility that i have set to run automatically each week that updates the GPS information. I am not entirely sure what it does, but it seems to keep the lock on time very quick.

I browse the internet on it reguarly for information and passing time. Very good performance with HSDPA and 3G/GPRS everywhere i go.

The phone is great, I have most of my frequently called numbers on a slide in menu (HTC standard feature) and when dialing numbers have no problems using the touchscreen dialing. Its fast and efficient, just slightly slower than a traditional keypad.

The camera is a lot better on the Dutty's rom i have on the phone now, a lot quicker to save and take photos, although there is still a slight delay.

Applications, there are loads out there for varying things and if you need something in particular, I can almost guarentee there is bit of saoftware out there to do it :D

Its a hardy device too, i have no busted this one yet, and its taken a fair few spills onto hard rough surfaces. I am very impressed with the resiliance of the screen. Its the hardest HTC device I have had (i have had many!) the best featured, and well packaged. Especially with the sliding/tilting keyboard!!

Could not reccomend it enough.

Malt Vinegar - How do you find the speaker volume? Some reviews state it is quiet and hard to hear it ringing?

That is one of my pet hates with phones when they too quiet!

And also is the lack of video acceleration an issue?

Never had a problem here with the speaker volume?

Well, its not a major problem for me, I dont notice it in everyday use. I have some videos at home that i encoded for my old M3100, i will stick one on the tytnII and see how it performs.

Cheers for that. It really is the two things putting me off it.

My other half just got a HTC P6500 - very nice :D

interesting...

Can you look at this link for me?

http://www.htcclassaction.org/#update_20080403_2

The p6500 may have the video acceleration drivers that are required to hack that functionality into the tytnII

If they can get a rom-dump from your partners 6500 you might be the person who helps solve the problem once and for all :D

Read all that, very interesting.

Unfortuately my other half has deceided to flog it as a new phone so I won't be able to get my grubby little hands on it :(

Don't blame her really when she can get £400+ for it and buy a SE W960i for £200 to replace it.

She prefers her music phones.....whatever floats her boat really.

Hopefully, somebody will have done the ROM dumps by now since there are loads of P6500 around and maybe sometime soon there will be a fix.

Well, i didnt get around to testing last night.
I just did some today, but the lowest bitrate i can find on my work laptop is 672 by 544, 1000+kbps videos which are rather stuttery on the device :p
I will re-encode some tonight and try them :)

If you NEED GPS, then the TyTn2 it'll have to be.
But if you dont, then the N95-8Gb would be the better choice.
