I am awaiting a copy of ARMA 2, but think I could do with an overclock to boost FPS till I upgrade.

The last time I overclocked was a few years back on a 3.2 P4 which I watercooler up to something like 4.2ghz stable. I have since forgotten how to overclock as cars became my hobby!

So here we go, be gentle ;)

CPU
Field Value
CPUID CPU Name Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz

RAM
DIMM1: Kingston 1 GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM (5.0-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4.0-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3.0-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)
DIMM3: Kingston 1 GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM (5.0-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4.0-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3.0-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)

Motherboard
Intel Badaxe2 D975XBX

Cooling
Antec 900 Nine Hundred case with arctic freezer 7 iirc

Should I see 3ghz+ ? Where do I start? I can run my laptop with this forum up/msn if you can talk me through it? :):)

All E6600 cpus I've played with have all done at least 3.2ghz stable. Thats using a slight bump in Vcore (depends what the default bios setting is, some can be quite low, others a little higher, luck of the draw really). Set the fsb to 400, set cpu multi 8, that'll give you 3.2ghz. The problem you've got is your ram is quite slow, you need pc6400 to run at 800mhz (400mhz) default yours runs at 677mhz (333mhz) default. This means you're automatically gonna overclock you memory as soon as you go over 333mhz fsb. Now if your memory can take the overclock, then all well and good, but you might have to increase the vdimm voltage or slacken the timimgs a bit. if it were me, I'd sell the existing memory and get some pc6400 or pc8500 speed memory. they allow a higher overclock.:)

Personally I'd get some ocz pc8500 on "this week only" for £38.90 meself. Will allow a higher overclock if your cpu will go higher than 400mhz fsb. Its what I'm using and clocked at exactly 500mhz (so its running slightly under default speed) and you only a max of 2.1v Vdimm.
The reason you need faster ram is because the lowest memory divider is X2, so anything above 400mhz is gonna start overclocking the memory (if you've got DDR2 400), with pc8500 you can go a lot higher and still be below the rams default speed, gives you a fair bit of overhead, costs much the same and allows a higher overclock if the cpu can go higher than 400mhz which is totally feasible with a bump in the vcore and n/b voltages.:)

Hmmm I am having trouble accessing the options in the bios? I have flashed to the latest bios revision....I can't install Intel Desktop Control Centre as it says "board not supported".

In my chipset options, I can get as far as a screen which allows me to change voltages, but none of the usual FSB options are there? Any ideas?

EDIT - found something in chipset options which said "positive clock increase", I increased this and booted up ok at 2.6ghz. IS this the method of overclocking on this board as I don't see any familiar options from my ex asus boards.

Any chance you could post a pic of your BIOS?

I've never seen a 'positive clock increase' just yet.

Are there any other options as linking/unlinking the memory ?
Setting FSB ratio etc? A memory timings?

You can post a screen of your CPU-Z memory and CPU tab as well, you can get quite a lot of info out of that.

The others are correct, you need to get a coupla screenies up of your bios so ppl here can have a look and see what bios options you've got. The sort of thing you're looking for are
FSB, cpu multi, memory dividers, Vcore adjuastment, n/b voltage adjustments, etc.
Could you post a screenie of cpu-z running while overclocked? You also need to show the memory option as well to check memory speed to ensure you keep it near stock as possible for the time being.:)

I found this at over at XS on a search for "Badaxe D975XBX" in the Intel section...

Couldn't find any shots of the ram tweaking sections though.

Hi guys, sorry to join in with problems also but they are relevant to original post & may help in the long run....
I cannot get my E6600 any higher than 2.5GHz (285MHz x 9.0 Cpu multiplier) on nTune.
Trouble is I also have no idea where to start.
Here's my nTune settings after a 3hour tune:

FSB - 285MHz x 9.0 - CPU core Freq 2,565
QDR - 1,140
DDR2 - 1,140
SPP - 3,000
MCP - 3,200
Vcore - 1.344v
Vram - 2.22v
Mem timings 2-4-3-13
I know the mem timings are too close, have reset them to 5-5-5-15 but still no luck.
Basically I have the PC8500 which was suggested to Booner & apparently my CPU, Mobo & RAM are all upto the job.......... but unfortunately, i am not!!!
I know I need to go into the BIOS but I need direction where to start.
Hopefully bullet points will help me & Booner

Hi

I used the following guide to overclock my E6600 on my evga 680i

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/747/747606p1.html

works a treat for me can get her upto 3.5ghz but i keep it a 3.4 for normal use.
