Noob question: Can I get my desktop restored after switching from a HDD to a SSD?

I recently did a new install of windows 10 onto an SSD (256gb) because I couldn't clone my 1TB HDD on to it.

My problem is that now that I boot windows from the SSD, all of my programs, drivers, apps, games etc are on the HDD and my desktop looks pretty barren.

Can I make the new windows install recognise all of the stuff that was on my desktop on the HDD (I'm aware that probably not all of it)

I don't really fancy reinstalling 900gb of stuff.

Many thanks.

it depends on what you have stored on the HDD.

game libraries can normally be re added or moved like Steam\Origin\Uplay.

If apps are installed on to the HDD try and browse to the folder, run the exe for the program and see if it loads as even though stored on the HDD they may store files in the windows folders which will not be there anymore.

You will need to install drivers again, also same for program files.

However for games they should work off the old hard drive, but may require a bit of fiddling. I know Skyrim and other Fall out games didn't work that way, as it creates files and just by playing games on a new OS install where you didn't install the game fresh didn't allow you to select mods.

But generally games work fine, you will lose savegames unless you back them up. Usually in my documents or roaming location.

Anything to do with the OS I install fresh (software, drivers) games I leave alone.
