Noob to gyms

Just get in and get it done mate, I used to be extremely self conscious when I was younger, and naturally thought everyone was looking at me for whatever reason...I still do to some extent.

Going to a big gym with loads of people will do you wonders, believe me. Just get in and do it as I said, after a week or two you'll get a routine going and you really won't care if people are looking or not!

Some people look, some people don't. You don't know them, they don't you so frankly it doesn't matter.

Get over the first few sessions and you'll be fine

The other thing to remember is that everyone starts somewhere. Nobody goes to the gym for the first time and is built like a brick outhouse. You're just another beginner, and won't be different to 90% of other gym noobs out there. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine.

Beyond looking to see whether their form is reasonable or not I'm afraid to say I don't give much thought to anyone in the gym apart from those I've grown to know and chat to regularly.

I'd probably liken it to being in a nightclub, most of the people there have other things to worry about rather than you. You might feel self-conscious on the dancefloor but unless you're quite spectacularly bad (or good) the chances are you're not being noticed beyond a cursory glance.

Quoted for truth, 100% agree.

i do that with family but end up getting a kiss lol

its too small to use showers so ill keep away from that area lol ;)

Do what i do if someone stares at you give them a wink. This gets mixed results and can be a giggle fest doing it in the showers.

Just get down there mr! I have Panic disorder and General Anxiety Disorder and was worried about everything you have mentioned and know how you are feeling. You just have to do it, there's no way around it I am afraid. It's the same as all the other areas which are making you worry, you have to just face it.

Something you have to remember is...above anything else, the best thing for reducing/prevention of anxiety is exercise by a country mile, so while going may make you feel self conscious the first few times, this will fade and is something everybody feels so is natural. Not to mention, once you been a few times be it at the gym or at home, it will make you feel a hell of a lot better generally too.

The hardest part of joining a gym will be the awkward moment of walking in and saying "Hi, I'm interested in joining your gym."

After that you get your membership, stare at the lycra babes and do your thing.

You get guys grunting like gorillas and they don't care what they do or you do. Cardiovascular stuff will be mainly woman anyway.

well tried the music in town and did not see were i was going and hit a lap post lol thx for the idea guys lol

it turned out ok took my mind off things till that happened lol so gona check the gym out in the morning see what i can do.

Sorry for double post but had to say this.

Thank you guys I went to the gym after check ups by the doctor, and loved it not many people there but still due to your advice's I went there with the wife and off again to the gym in the morning.

Well done on going in the first instance, if you can now make it into a routine for you and your wife then it'll be easier to maintain - one benefit of going with someone else is that you tend to be more motivated to go even if you don't really feel like it, when you feel as if you're letting someone down it gives that little bit extra impetus to keep going. :)

Thank you guys

Yeah I went with the wife and she got me started but the gym test and checks was worse to make sure I was healthy and fit enough for the gym, dame it killed me lol I did not know i was so unhealthy, my heart rate kept getting into the danger part and this gym has this key you have to use while on the machines to keep track of everything.
