I'm trying to install ad aware to my friends machine.

Every time I try it comes up with this message: 'windows found that this file is potentially harmful. to help protect your computer, windows has blocked access to this file. Name aawsepersonal.exe'

XP Home version.

I'm logged in as an administrator and have come across this before but can't remember how I got round it!

Any offers?

Are you trying to download the .exe and just run it rather than saving it first?

If so it sounds like the security settings in IE have been wound up to a higher than usual level.

Google's got varying opinions on this one. Some of the entries are suggesting temporarily disabling the firewall, others talk about unblocking access to the file - right click on it, click properties and on the general tab click unblock.

Now this isn't something I've ever seen outside of Outlook so I'm a bit lost to be honest but give the above a go and see how you get on.

If you are using IE you will get this security bar automaticly anyway so there is no need for you to panic =) this is a part of the windows security!

I have his trouble everytime I try to install Firefox on a fresh install of WinXP so I have to right click on the .exe and select 'Run as...' then select administrator and put in the password. I have to do this whether I am already logged in as admin or not.
