Norton asking to update definitions every restart

There's more to it than just ram and cpu usage, it depends how long it takes to do it's startup rubbish and how it scans files & folders you use... While I have no idea about norton as I haven't used it since v2003 but kaspersky used to slow my pc down terribly while nod32 barely made a difference... Anyways I'm now using avast and also no noticeable difference so far...
Just an update. System still bit temperamental. When I originally installed I was installing programs while vista premium installed itself and such. Just gonna reformat and start from scratch and pray.
system was running a lot faster on previous install last week and i can only assume I must have fouled it up installing software or update. So instead this time I'm going to:
1) Reflash bios (just in case)
2) Reformat using vista DVD
3) Install home basic
4) Install SP1
5) Install premium upgrade
6) Install mobo chipset + graphics card drivers
...
Finally install my programs last this time

Because you're used ot it. If you've had it for years then you've had the worst versions of it.

Some peeps here live in the past ie 2002.
Norton 2007 onwards uses hardly any resources.
Said it before in many threads, these peeps don't have a clue what they are talking about and repeat the same BS over and over without even trying it for themselves.
I used 360 now 360v2 for all customers, they cant grasp Nod32 or ESS which is buggy crap anyhow esp this v4 Beta I'm trying to test.
I advise you do not listen to anyone and go and read many reviews and try it for yourself.
Edit: I cannot remember the wording but go in to your Contol Panel and you will see a Norton Icon.
Click it and set BOTH settings to AUTO and that Error Setting to Enhanced (think that what it will say or words to that effect).

Well I think I have solved this issue,
I went for a fresh install and as opposed to just clicking format on the vista CD I also clicked delete (I'm a tool) and it freed up the remaining space on the drive. I then installed and I have had no BSOD during vista loading bars, no mysterious disappearing icons. And vista is running nice and quick (for vista).
Only got basic installed for now but I'll put premium on tomorrow. All looking good.
