Not all X1900 are created equal

Saw this review. I always thought these cards were made by the same manufacturer, this would seem to indictate otherwise. Or the variability is all over the place. Either way looks like XT's are not XTX's, some cherry picking must be going on.

There was a lot of talk that the XT's were exact the same cards, 1.1ns memory and all that. So there was no reason to get an XTX, I always assumed that the XTX's were the better faster cores and would clock higher. Of course there are always exceptions.

I'm wondering how high an XT would OC. This sapphire XTX can only manage 675 according to ATI's 'overdrive,' and even then it hits 91C, so its back at 650.

Are you talking about yours. Mine is a Sapphire, runs to 700/850 on stock volts and its not that hot at all, it gets to 72C with the stock cooler. I'm quite happy with it.

what are people using to change the volts on these? not tried changing the volts with overclocker, but it didnt like it when it tried clocking with ati tool

My 1900XT clocks to 690 and 1500 with stock cooler. I can't try to get the core higher as overdrive is maxed. The memory bums out quite quickly though. This seems like a reasonable overclock and I can't wait to flash it with an XTX bios and put it into my watercooling loop. :)

hanvt ATI been cherry picking cards ever since the x800 series though? its nothing new to buy a lower spec ATI card and have a top liner :p

Aww was hoping i could clock my xt a bit higher then the xtx.. obviously not much beyond but still a worthy overclock.

but unless prices drop within the next 2 weeks on the xtx (i doubt they will) then i shall be sticking to the x1900xt.

Maybe... just maybe ati will lower there prices just before the g71 comes out so i can nab a card those few pints cheaper :P

Did anyone notice that the HIS in that review has an arctic cooler style cooler. Where can I buy one of those? And it's not that stupid Accelero X1 stlye, rather a proper IceQ job with the rear exhaust.

Simon.

Simon.

Why is it stupid?

The x1 does its job perfectly; getting on for silent, the fact that it cools quite well is a bonus imo.
Also please dont think that the rear exhaust idea is so amazing and great, if you notice a delta anything more than 2c then ill be suprised.

Hiya,

I'll qualify my statement. In my opinion, it's a silly design because it blows warm air straight down onto the motherboard. There are reports on some forums that say that as it blows down onto chips on nVidia motherboards, it causes some issues and instability. It would've been more sensible to remove that hot air from the back of the case like the DHES.

Got to say i prefer the HIS cooler too just for a noise point of view going my XTX is way noisier than any card I have had with an arctic cooler. Also what drivers are you guys using and what are you using to clock your cards. The Overdrive in the 6.2 Cats set off my VPU recover

Im using ati tool and not having any problems. I disabled ati hotkey poller in services so card dont switch between 2d and 3d modes. Then i just oc 2d clocks and adjust volts to 1.4v core
