Hello,

As some of you know i am from Toxteth, Liverpool. Two nights ago 3 people were stabbed, all diferrent people, no links.

I think this area is getting a bit too bad now, one of them was 16 and surrounded by a gang and then stabbed 12 times, this is sick.

I know it's always been a bad area, but theres some great people, always looking out for eachother, it just isn't getting any better, crime wise.

i.e. Police have the right in some areas to split a group of more then two, and if seen the following day in that area you could face arrest.

Police have bikes, quads, vans and cars round here aswell as those on foot. Not nice for capital of culture tourists.

I know theres another guy on here from Toxteth, and many from Liverpool.

What do you think is happening to the area and city on a whole?

Also, for those outside of Liverpool, what do you think of it?

no stereotyping! :)

never seen it as an appealing place to go really, and it has always confuzzled me how it became a 'capital of culture'

Pretty much all the big cities I've ever been to (including those outside the UK) have their good areas and their bad. Even smaller towns have them. It seems to be a natural phenomena for the dregs of humanity to want to congregate. Once that starts, it becomes a viscious circle, and the good folk that live in the area inevitably suffer as a result. :(

The parts of Liverpool I've seen (not that many of them), seem absolutely fine to me, as do the Liverpudlians I've met. However, I'd not go to Toxteth out of choice, and certainly not on my own.

I enjoy seeing the police out and about, i dont know why, it just makes me feel a lot more secure.

things have never been good there, though there is a chance that these people know their attackers as it's not often that strangers get caught on foot in that area.My other half worked in Granby Street for a number of years and it was always the same few who caused the problems, even now 20 years later, she still recognises the names of the 'baddie' families when they come on the news.

Whilst walking from my mate's uni digs (quite nice btw!) to Nation for a night out we (a group of 4 lads) got heckled walking across a park with syringes in by a teenage mother and her daughter.

Now that's hardcore.

ive heard stories where liverpuddlian mums will frighten little kids into doing as theyre told.. like "if you dont get to bed right this minute, the Stabbers will get you!". worse than vampires and werewolves if you ask me.

what? what? ....and just to make sure....what?? Are you for real? lmao. What the heck's a 'stabber'?

I've heard stories of dragons in Wales, doesn't mean they're true :p

As Berserker said above, there are good and bad areas of every major city (Moss Side in Manchester was one that immediately sprung to mind, though I've never been there myself). Toxteth is unfortunately one of the worst areas in Liverpool, and it will take a lot of work by the council and police to make any sort of headway in cleaning the area up.

Can't comment on Liverpool but Leeds has some equally bad areas.
Some parts of woodside weren't the best, queue fireworks launched at my mums car caving in the front fog light.
My mate lived in Little London, some kids set fire to his garden and then when he tried to put it out they shot at him with paintball guns, they then turned and fired the paintball guns at a single mum from point blank range. They alsoo nicked a car, and set fire to it next to his girlfriends car which set hers alight. Also the 14 year old kid next door who was a dealer, when my mate asked if his mum knows he replied yes she does and I am old enough now. Oh the joys.

Liverpool on average isn't bad. But i'd say the times i've been round toccy (said rather scouse, and translated into Toxteth) its been pretty bad, so i'd say that was a biased view over the rest of Liverpool. It’s (no offence) probably one of the worst places in Liverpool. My leafy suburb is great :D.

Now that's just stupid.

When I went to L'pool, it was alright, and even walking around when it was dark on my own, I didn't feel threatened...which was a bit of a suprise.

Best edit that dude.

As for Toxteth i'm not too fussed about it. I had a friend who lived there last year so i spent a fair bit of time there. I lived in Kensington aka kenny fields and it was in my eyes far worse than Toxteth. I watched the pub down the road get set alight most weeks, fireworks and bonfires in main roads. A double bed being burned in the middle of the main road, constant helicopters overhead etcetc. All in all though i didnt have any trouble my-self :), in-fact the neighbours and folks on my road were really nice.

I lived in Kensington for many years and there was never that much trouble there, not compared to a lot of other areas of Liverpool.

That's only because I couldn't find you :p

I remember going to work in Liverpool city centre to cable up a Ladbrokes shop with my dad. He asked the manager where he was ok parking his car and he said park it anywhere because the traffic wardens have all been hospitalised.

I had a friend at university from Liverpool, sure he said he was from Anfield and he always talked of lots of gang fights and muggings where even without resisting somebody would get served up.

I think its like a lot of big cities, they have some really bad areas. The worst thing is that the police know who these people are.
