Hi all,

I just bought an OCZ Vertex 2 (100gb) with the promise of super fast speeds, but I just don't seem to be getting them in Windows.

It boots very fast (like 20 secs) and a virus scan takes next to no time.

However when I load programs they seem to take a while to start up.

I have two drives, the ssd for my windows 7 info and then a regular 500gb for my user folder.

I think the problem is that the user application data is stored on the hdd and not the ssd which could be why the applications take so long to load.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or can you provide me with some sort of resolution.

Installing windows again is possible but I don't want to as I just did it all yesterday and have just got my pc back to 'my way' (you know what I mean)

Cheers, Tom

Any files that are on the HDD will take a lot longer to access. Personally I wouldn't store anything other than long-term, infrequently accessed files such as movies and such. Application files and game data should be put on the SSD or there won't be any benefit.

The only reason that they are on there is because my music folder is 80Gb+ and then my documents and pictures come to over 20Gb. My video is stored on a seperate drive as thats around 1Tb of data.

Is it possible to move my application data back to the C:/ drive without corrupting anything or will I have to re-install??

Or is this just going to be one of them things that I should accept and leave alone?

cheers for the quick response mate

If those're the only things you've got on the HDD, I don't think that's the issue. Files like that are small and easily buffered anyway. So all your programs and games and such are on the Vertex?

How is your SSD setup? Normal Windows 7 formatting, AHCI mode as opposed to IDE? Also, what motherboard do you have? Some boards have shoddy SATA controllers that can have a pretty big impact on sequential performance, not sure about smaller file transfers though.

And no worries, I've got nobody to help at work at the moment so I'm helping people on here instead. :D

Copy all the data apart from the music on to the SSD then use symbolic links to redirect the music and/or the app data folders back between the drives.

or reinstall.

I reinstalled windows 7 and then changed my username without thinking, this messed up some of the paths, i just created a symlink for the user folder, ie c:\users\username1 >=< c:\users\username2 and it all worked ok.
