Im after a bit of advice from those of you in the know. I want to upgrade my current main hard drive to one of these, either the OCZ vertex3 120gb or the Crucial M4 128gb which one would be more suitable? Or is there something else that is better in the same price range

My current set up is as follows

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1
Amd 1090t
GA-880GA-UD3H bios ver F7
16gb dual channel DDR3
64gb OCZ Vertex 1 (now full and slowing down)
2 xSamsung Hd502hj

I use my pc for a bit of gaming (COD and cyrsis), working on photos, music and a bit of DVD editing and a bit of surfing etc..

I'm all ears

the M4 is no doubt the most reliable ssd around atm, there are still lots of issues with the sandforce 2xxx controllers, so i wouldnt take the risk it just yet

Another +1 for the M4.

I did a lot of research because I was originally looking at the Vertex 3 too, but after reading about the issues that some people are experiencing with the Sandforce controllers, I went for the M4 and updated the firmware and I'm really happy with the speed.

I'm sure that the Sandforce issues will be fixed soon, but if you're looking at getting an SSD now, then I'd definitely consider the M4.

Looks like I bought mine at exactly the right time! Price has gone from £133 to £149! Demand is obviously increasing with all the good press they are getting :)

ya another +1 for m4 - atm its suggested 'known' that intel and crucial are the preferred brands to get for ssd's.

also the m4 tends to be quite a bit cheaper then the ocz.

I thought Id pass something along just to confuse you even more ... the intel 520 replacement of the 510 is supposed to be out in nov. Stats are supposed to be much better and who knows (maybe they will actually make it competitive price wise).

If I didnt have my m4 already and could wait Id get the new intel 'cherryville' ... Im guessing it will beat the m4 and the vertex 3 ...

Just swapped my windows drive from a Force 3 to the M4, the Force 3 is now being used for games.

The Force 3 is lightning quick but highly unstable due to problems with the sandforce controller:(

I got fed up with the constant crashing and resetting the bios jumper, the firmware made no difference at all.

Cloned the Force 3 onto the M4 on Tuesday and all the stability problems have gone :D

Well all the votes seemed to be for the M4 and none for the vertex so I picked an M4 today and fitted it, I am impressed thanks to everyone that replied

Bought a Vertex 3 on Wednesday, arrived Thursday, shipped it back Friday. Couldnt even flash the drive to the latest 2.13 firmware and after seeing the amount of issues people were having over on the OCZ forums (50%) of users were totally p*ssed off, I swapped it for an M4. Everyone has said how reliable the M4's are so I'll let you know :-)
