They treated it to the legendary 2JZ engine, famed for its existence in the Toyota Supra TT. Mated to an auto gearbox this silky smooth cruiser still retains the 2JZ punch when the mood takes you!
This car was imported in June 2019 and is currently sitting on 110715 kilometres, it has not been changed to miles.
The speedo is still reading in kilometres. The mileage will not be going up.

The 2JZ engine in this car is completely standard with only a new K&N panel filter being fitted at the last service.
This model is incredibly clean for its age, spotless underneath and the inside is immaculate.
Just been put through a MOT with no advisories.
It has just had a recent service including - oil, oil filter, k&n panel filter, spark plugs.
The wheels have been professionally refurbished by The Wheel Specialists Aberdeen, with brand new tyres fitted.

The BMW 328 and its early competition successes, especially when considering the youth of the BMW brand at the time, are key components as to why it is so highly regarded today. From a brand that found its roots very much in aeroplane and motorcycle engine building; the curation of available parts to create the best possible result was the best option for the marque which lacked the resources of its larger rivals of the time.

Born from the acquisition of the Dixi works in 1928 – a factory that had been manufacturing the Austin Seven under licence, BMW had found their way into to automotive manufacture. The Dixi was evolved and developed over time, gaining swing-axle suspension, and overhead valves. Continued development saw their automotive offering improve over time and in 1933, BMW launched their first six-cylinder powered car, the 303. Road-holding was greatly improved through the use of a more conventional live axle whilst the steering moved to a rack and pinion set up. These efforts would pave the way for more power and increasingly sporty models going forward.

The ‘mix and match’ approach to model development had served BMW well, the 328 utilised a tubular chassis, independent front suspension and the live rear axle of the preceding 319 combined with the cylinder block and hydraulic brakes of the 326. Turning away from the traditional heavyweight strengthening, the 328 used a chassis that was stiff but primarily light – merits which allowed the car to be softly sprung.

The engine received a bespoke head with hemispherical combustion chambers and inclined valves, that still allowed for the Type 326 engine’s single camshaft and pushrod valves to be retained. Down-draught inlet ports supported flexibility in tuning and meant the engine would be a popular motorsports choice well past its years. The engine produced 80bhp; a healthy sum for a 2.0litre engine of the time and more available with some fettling.

The first 328s were available from late summer in 1936 and unlike the prototypes, they received doors and a convertible roof. The lightweight construction and considerable power output meant the 328 would be a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack. BMW won its class at the Mille Miglia in 1938 and two years later, the 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupe would win overall. Elsewhere BMW took victories at Le Mans, Spa 24hrs and at the Tourist Trophy.

In 1934, AFN Ltd concluded an agreement with BMW to import their cars into the UK, to be sold under the Frazer-Nash BMW banner. The bodywork would in fact be shared between British companies and others built by BMW prior to dispatch. In 1938, a Frazer-Nash BMW in production trim successfully completed more than 100 miles in an hour at Brooklands loop.

The 328 remained successful after the war and its engine would remain as the base for many race cars well into the 1950s. Between 1936 and 1939 only 426 examples were produced, of which fewer than 200 are known to survive today. Of the total production, just 48 examples were imported to the UK by AFN and sold in right hand drive.

Completed on 20th October 1937, this wonderful example was first owned by gentleman racer Denis Flather. Based in Sheffield and a steel merchant by trade, Flather raced the car extensively and commanded considerable respect behind the wheel.

Denis’ father had been a founding member of the Sheffield Motor Club, and, having grown up around cars himself, founded the British Trials and Rally Drivers’ Association. Organising multiple forms of competition, he also acted as the President of the association for many years. Alongside the 328, he also built and raced 500cc Formula 3 racing cars or ‘Flather Specials’ as they were known. Alongside his competition exploits, he also found time to act as chairman for BRM in their early days and actively involve himself in the RAC Competitions Committee.

In 1949, Flather sold the BMW and after passing through several owners in quick succession, it was sold to the penultimate keeper on 22nd January 1950 with whom it would remain with for 70 years until June 2022.

Throughout that time ‘GML 185’ has affectionately been known as Zoë as mentioned in the accompanying three-volume history file. Zoë was regularly toured abroad and in 1950 was driven to both the 24hr Le Mans and the French Grand Prix at Reims-Geux.

Competition was evidently instilled in the car from the start and the racing continued; Hill climbs were common practice, as well as multiple volumes of The Land’s End Trial, Exeter Trial and Edinburgh classic reliability trials. The 328 was then used as an everyday car between 1952 and 1970.

Having spent a good number of years off the road, Zoë was treated to a comprehensive restoration by renowned specialists Thornley Kelham Ltd over a two year period culminating in 2017. Throughout the restoration, Mr John Giles, founder and past director of TT Workshops was extensively consulted to ensure the car conformed to factory specification as closely as possible. Comprehensively documented and photographed, the restoration was summarised in a lengthy article in Classic Car magazine as well as an accompanying hardback photo album.

'GML 185' won the 'Best in Show' award, presented by Octane magazine, at the 2017 London Concours held at the Honourable Artillery Company's headquarters, and was subsequently displayed in the Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall.

The comprehensive restoration included the following aspects:

New cylinder block made by Crosthwaite & Gardiner from BMW-held pattern/mould New crankshaft and damper
New con-rods (Thin Wall bearings)
New pistons (compression ratio increased to 8.5:1
New camshaft bearings
Enlarged Bristol oil pump, filter, and oil cooler
Bosch distributor
New fuel pump
Rebuilt carburettors
New air filters
Hurth gearbox (from contemporary BMW 320, this box is more robust than the original ZF)
New bearings, seals and synchro cones throughout
Electrics converted to 12-volt
New wiring loom
Direction indicators
Radiator re-cored
Suspension arms and kingpins crack-tested
Reconditioned Bristol cylinder head (new valves, guides, springs, rocker shafts, etc)
Six-branch exhaust manifold
New under-trays
New bonnet strut arrangement
Further works have since been carried out by Patrick Blakeney-Edwards on behalf of the current owner; David Cottingham, the co-founder of DK Engineering. Accompanied by its three-volume history file, a wealth of pre-restoration spare parts, extensive literature, Zoë is ready to be viewed at our showrooms outside London immediately.

Generally regarded as one of the very few pre-war models that drives like a post-war car, the Frazer-Nash BMW 328 is eligible for all the most important historic events including the Mille Miglia, Nürburgring Oldtimer GP, and Le Mans Historic.

BMW 2002tii in the original colour of Golf yellow. Original engine, starts and runs with the key.

I will add more information and photos over the next week.

The car has been off the road since around 1993. Mileage is 114k.

I'm selling because I haven't really had the time to properly get started on it after nearly two years. I'm still finishing a 3.0CSi project which is taking longer than expected, amongst many other commitments.

The car starts and runs. All parts are present. The car is in South East London, SE23.

I've bought a full service kit from Walloth and Nesch in Germany. Including all new rigid and flexible fuel lines. What I haven't yet used is included. I have lubricated the Kugelfischer fuel pump before starting it up, as is recommended.

I bought a fuel tank which is in excellent condition, it has been lined using the POR15 system. This is included in the sale, and cost around £400 in total.

I tracked down some replacement vinyl in the US to replace a section which is ripped on the driver's seat. I wanted to keep the car completely original rather than recover the seats, as the original material is no longer available. This cost me around £200. This is included in the sale.

I have a spare set of bumpers in ok condition, the idea was to make one good set and have them rechromed, as the front centre section has holes drilled for the spotlights which I wanted to remove. These cost me around £350. I will include these in the sale.

As my plan was to make the car completely original I tracked down an early Tii manifold which uses the black plastic runners, and all associated parts. Includes at least a couple of spare plastic runners. This all cost around £500. I also tracked down an original early tii “weld in” battery tray. These are impossible to find. The current battery tray is a complete bodge. I can offer these parts as a separate negotiation, they are not included in the sale as some owners prefer to fit removeable batter trays, and the existing manifold and runners are fine as is.

The car will need welding in all of the usual places, and new metal panels or cuts from a donor car will be required. The sills are partially rusted. It will need floor pans. Some patching on the A pillars. The boot floor will need either patching, or a new floor is probably easier. A new drivers's door, or just a reskin at the bottom section. The front and rear valance could do with some sections replaced, or complete replacement. There are some other patches which will be needed, around the bootlid hinge and also a small section above the rear driver's side window.

I have receipts for some bodywork done in the 90’s; two “rifle butt” wing mounting panels were replaced, and a new passenger side door. These are still in sound condition.

There is a pile of receipts for mechanical work over the years. I have all of the old MOTs.

KEY FACTS

This E34-era BMW M5 is a timelessly specified example of the acclaimed modern classic sports saloon, offered in smart, largely original condition, and boasting the desirable Handling pack.
Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre ‘S38B38’ inline-six, delivering around 335bhp to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
This M5 was first registered in Sweden in August 1997, and was with the previous owner for 16 years. It has now been with the seller for around one year.
The example has been driven and enjoyed as intended, but evidently well maintained, and just serviced at independent BMW specialist Per Larsson.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This M5 was specified with the sought-after Nürburgring Handling Pack, which includes a thicker front anti-roll bar, wider rear wheels, EDC switchable dampers, and a servo-tronic steering rack.
This example is finished in the timeless combination of Diamond Black Metallic over a full black leather-trimmed interior.
It rides on a set of 17-inch ‘Style 21’ alloy wheels, shod with Michelin Primacy 3 tyres on the front and Pilot Sport 4s on the rear.
The factory specification includes headlamp washers, a three-spoke steering wheel, electrically adjustable door mirrors, an on-board computer, cruise control, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, an electric lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats with three-position driver memory, and an electric rear lateral roller blind.
This M5 now features a Pioneer CD stereo, an aftermarket stainless-steel sports exhaust, and Koni shock absorbers with HR springs.
It will be supplied with a warning triangle, a complete toolkit, the owner’s manual and service booklet, a raft of inspection papers, a spare wheel, and the original EDC dampers, though an overhaul is recommended before their use.

CONDITION

The Diamond Black Metallic paintwork is recently repainted and reported to be in good overall condition given the car’s age, though the seller notes some stone chips and minor blemishes around the car. There are also scuffs on the front bumper.
Inside, the cabin is in generally good shade given the car’s usage. The seller notes various blemishes and scratches on the seats and steering wheel. There is also creasing on the seats, slight sagging on the headlining around the sunroof controls, wrinkling on the driver’s door card, and a few other minor blemishes and scuffs around the trim.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard, though they do note that the rear door window blinds are missing.
The car’s last roadworthiness test was conducted on 15 December 2021, resulting in a pass following a repair carried out on the air pump.

SERVICE HISTORY

This M5’s most recent maintenance was carried out in June 2022 at 222,142 Kms by independent BMW specialist Per Larsson BMT AB, which included an engine oil and filter change, as well as the fitment of new rear bushings, gearbox linkage bushings, a new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing, and rear EDC hoses and pipes. The cost for this was around 4500 EUR.
This M5 is understood to have had an engine oil change every year whilst with its previous owner.
Other notable maintenance includes all new brake discs and pads, rust repairs on both front sills behind the plastic covers, a full respray, a new rear tyre, and a new original gear lever being installed.

SUMMARY

This E34-generation BMW M5 is a well-maintained example of the sought-after modern classic performance saloon, offered in smart, largely original condition, and boasting the desirable Nürburgring Handling pack. Presented in the timeless combination of Diamond Black Metallic over full black leather, it would make a fine addition to any marque enthusiast’s garage, and an exciting yet practical companion for retro daily driving, long-distance road trips, and car show visits alike.

What cars can you buy and keep for ten years, then sell for a profit?

Also, this is an old ass, rare car which I'm sure you guys wouldn't want to rust away, so surely its best kept in a collection?

With a vision in mind, the professionals at Apocalypse Manufacturing sought to create a 6x6 vehicle that could survive the end of times. Through countless hours of engineering, performance adjustment, and off-road testing this 15-year-old outfit succeeded. Behold the Apocalypse – a truck where looks and function dance with the devil in the pale moonlight. With over 180 on the road today, in countries throughout the world, the prophecy has been fulfilled and then some.
