Chris Harris is selling his beloved 1996 BMW ‘M5’ Touring and while it didn’t roll out of the factory as an M5, it has been lovingly modified and essentially turned into one.

The car sits lower than a standard BMW M5 Touring but as it doesn’t have the same trick suspension, it has a softer ride and less body control. Harris adds that from the outside, the 525i is virtually indistinguishable from an E34 M5.

As for the cabin, it features seats from an M5 but doesn’t feature air conditioning or a stereo. The headliner isn’t in particularly good condition with Harris explaining it reminds him of a pet snake he used to own that couldn’t shed its skin properly. The car recently underwent a £4,729 ($8,708) service.

Not convinced... the 8's have been on some ridiculously low cost PCP deals and the depreciation has hit hard. Looks tidy though. Shame it is so damn long!

There was only 10 UK ones though and they cost £22k more than the standard ones and came in at £122k.

All depends what it sell for at auction really.

Its certainly a rare car and that paint colour was only available for the first editions so you are highly unlikely to see another one in the UK.

It is a GT car though and is still shorter than the 6 series and weighs less than the CLS 53.

0-60 in 3.7s is a decent lick of pace too.

Normal ones seem to be 70-80k used. Not sure how much of a premium the first edition would add. 70-80k seems a lot for 2 year 8 series that only cost £100k list price so unless they are all way too ambitious on their asking prices, they dont seem to have lot much at all depreciation wise

Z4M going crazy, seen prices over 25k
That’s 10k increase in the few years I’ve been looking.

Are the z4m worth the premium over the 3.0si and all those expensive maintenance bills anyway?

Just looked. Some are now 33k!!!! for a 14 year car as well!

Werent they only £40k new?

The Z4M really does look special on the road, saw one coming over woodhead road in a spirited fashion at weekend, interlagos blue. No way you could mistake it for the standard car.
Maintenance is mainly adjusting valve clearances which a competent DIY mechanic could do.

A tidy 3.0Si now fetching good money too.

Early well maintained Porsche Boxster looking like a good buy to me.
Pre 2000 cars didn’t have the IMS bearing issues?

Half the price of the z4m fetch though. Thats a big difference. And honestly is there really that much difference in performance?

You are paying for the glorious S54 engine.
No point analysing it on paper.

As you said, ones worth a relative fortune.
The other isn’t.
