Noticeable difference in NVMe speeds?

I have seen a video that compares different games starting with these drives compared to normal SSDs and they are only a second or two at the most quicker, not really worth the extra money
A lot of those videos are flawed as they focus on the loading times when its the write that makes the big difference. Depending on game they are well worth the money and I would never go back to SSD.
 
Given the responders I've gotten here and elsewhere this is where I may be leaning too.
For me a lot of the responders are wrong as they focus to much on read speeds and not the benefits of the write speed. It does depend on the game but the big difference is saving and write speeds. When you are running across the map and you get those short save pauses, or when everything freezes when auto save kicks in a NVMe removes all that or reduces that pause a large amount depending on the game. All those little judders you get with a SSD when it cannot write fast enough are gone with a NVMe.

The difference isn't as big as going from a spinning disk to SSD but it is noticeable I found when you move to an NVMe. Although some games have no benefit what so ever, it really does depend on what games you play.

NVME drives are coming into their own now - in several games the NVME can load nearly twice as fast as a SATAIII SSD

 
If you want to use your computer for something more than games, then NVMe. I use mine for VMware Workstation and running training domain on few lab virtual machines and can see difference between NVMe and Sata SSD..
Have some VM's running on different NVMe drives and doing migrations between ESXi hosts makes difference on how much you can do in given time - that translates to cost efectiveness and also gives you more time to do games when you bored of professional life..

It is all about how much you WRITE to drive, not how much you read from them and that is personal decision of yours..

There is no down side to nvme right? Is it bad for games? Doesn't look like it's bad in game load times
 
No, it's faster as entire data transfer speed over PCI-e is higher than that of SATA. If you have space to accomodate for M.2 then there's no real benefit of sticking to SATA. Only reason of not going to NVMe is if you have enough drives (HDD and SATA SSD's) to saturate all of your MB's SATA ports otherwise blocked by another NVMe, like I have now... Had to buy external Hyper m.2 x16 extension card to put 3rd NVMe in, as both MB slots are already used and I have already 4 SATA drives in system. I plan to move 2nd NVMe to this ext board today/tomorrow, so that I can release last 2 SATA ports and put capacity HDD drives in..
Only downside I have is that my GPU will go from x16 to x8 bus (CPU/MB limitation) but will test how's performance afterward and may be forced to revert it.
