Notification of a post of yours being quoted is a great feature to have in my opinion. Especially useful on forums of similar size where it can be impossible to keep up.

Was just about to post this, would be of great help.

I think it would be a pain, the thanks system. It'll spam the pages.

Just imagine:

The only notification id like is to tell you when youve been quoted on the forum

sometimes i ask questions in a thread that i forget to check :(

I think it would be a pain, the thanks system. It'll spam the pages.

(snip)

Well you implement it more intelligently than that.

- Only have the ability to thank someone for the post in the technical sections (as it would be pointless to have it in GD)
- Only have the OP of the thread about to thank the responders as they are the one who has asked the original question. Maybe also extend this to Mods/Underbosses too.
- Don't display a list of people who have thanked the person for the post (as the point about makes that pointless anyway) just a visual indication if the member has been thanked for the post or not.
- Maybe display in the user profile page (not in the left pane in the usual forum) the number of thanks received so the information is there is you go looking for a user but isn't something always displayed and hence turning into something to brag about.

Thanking is utterly pointless, it brings nothing to the thread.

That's not true ... if you are searching the technical sections of the forum for a solution to a problem you are having and you find a thread with the same issue with several possible solutions to a problem one of which has been thanked then that should be a good indication of where you may want to look first ...

Agreed, memyselfandi. It would only show the hordes of users thanking my posts, moomoo, if you mouse-overed the numeral.

Not that I am in favour of it but the forums i use where it is implemented it usually just says a couple of the usernames then x others rather than every username

The post at the end saying "Thanks this worked" would achieve the same thing.
