Sony definitely needs to sort out their 'This is Living' advertising. I have seen about four or five different Playstation 3 adverts now, and not a single one of them contained any gameplay footage. It also had a double-edged effect of making many people convinced that it was all just a load of self-pretentious nonsense, soaked in hubris; it certainly didn't help stem off Sony's existing image problems. Apparently the advertising campaign with the dancers and entertainers have already been stopped due to massive negative feedback.
That Saliva advert is definitely the way to go. If you showed any old Joe that, they would be immensely impressed and consider for a few seconds at least that the PS3 really is a next-generation console worthy of its price tag. The older adverts didn't do that. It's quite amazing how TV advertising can influence sales; just look at Microsoft's marketing and their high software tie-in ratio.
