I have a Core to work on and its chugging away nicely

Project 991

Double Gromacs Core

It seems to be split into 100 frames and then EM shows me the progress through each frame as a %age

I came down to the machine this morning and thought 'thats odd, its hardly done any work' but looking at the logs it uploaded a WU and got itself a new one to work on during the night, but it seems to be the same one

Its still a Double Gromacs, does the project have multiple WUs for the same protein and if so how long will I be folding Dbl Gromacs before I get set something else? Someone seemed a bit jelous of my Core does that mean Dbl Gmacs are good?

A project is composed of hundreds or thousands of WUs, each is unique. p991 might have ten thousand different Wus associated with it that are in circulation right now.

Double gromacs is the core used to perform the calculations on the WU. As you get defferent WUs you'll find that other projects use the same core while others will use a different one and as such will have to download a new one. The client will take care of all this automagically.

P991 , 992 , 993 and 994 are all really good WUs for points. I get p2051 p2055 and p2056 mostly on the P4 3ghz boxes and i don't like them much.

My AMD64 gets those WUs above mostly too but also sometimes WUs in the late 900's thankfully. I get totally different WUs on my Pentium 3 but that's not on much.

See the link below for info about all the (non-beta) work units / projects.

Thats great thanks :)

Is is odd that I am now wondering how much a 2nd PC would be just to use for folding?

I denied myself an upgrade recently and bought a 360 but now I'm interested in watercooling the Northwood and maybe getting another because it will mean I can add more to my WUpenis :/

WUpenis - I love it!!! :D
...errrr that came out alll wrong :o

there was some discussion of best value for money for a dedicated folder in the 2nd June news post - Billy came up with a combination of cpu/motherboard/ram for about £300 based around a Pentium-D 805 - linky

alternatively you could get an X2-3800 (£180), Asrock Dual-SATA (£45), and a 2x512MB DDR kit (£65) which would end up about the same price

both would obviously need PSU, case, hdd etc if you don't have spares kicking around

if you can wait until the end of july there should be some price cuts on the way and even more options with new Intel chips on the way

Think I may do that, its not urgent and I would like to build a machine to take over as my main rig and turn this one into a download/ storage box and folding machine :)

I'm sure people will be getting rid of old boxes when Conroe hits so I may just buy a base unit from someone.

My second WU should register in the update at 21.00 \o/

Yes :)

So ignore it for now give it time to level out
no you don't want it to level out - you want to keep adding more and more machines so it's in a permenantly errect state :D

mine kept drooping a while ago but since I've got my X2 I've just felt much more of a man ;)

SiriusB - as soon as your first WU is completed and sent in you'll be stomping hundreds of slackers, the WUs are worth a lot lot more than they used to be and there's quite a bit of old dead wood down the bottom of the ranks :o
