Now that the format war won....

Isn't consoles for playing games on?

If anything it makes my PS3 purchase more justified, but that's about it. My 360 isn't going down in value any less.

Never gamble with format wars. Just hold off the players, and purchase any existing consoles on the strength of their library, not the format they support.

i bought mine for bluray. i wasnt at all disappointed. do i do something wrong?

Have said this before I think, but I do get the impression some people are really intolerant of the idea of people using hardware for reasons different to their own.

Fine, some of you use these systems for GAMES ONLY, thats not to say that everyone thinks that way.

I personally am quite happy using these systems for more than just games. It would mean one less box to find room for... already using my 360 for DVD's as normal dvd player looks shoddy over through scart.

Edit: for clarity

Correct. My PS3 is an all round home entertainment system - I didn't buy it JUST FOR GAMES and I would suggest that a good deal many other PS3 or 360 owners have done the same. So to me the PS3 is definately not just a GAMES CONSOLE.

mine is a BLURAY PLAYER, and SACD PLAYER, and a MULTIMEDIA DEVICE. oh and its also AN EXCUSE TO USE THE SHIFT BUTTON WHEN IM TYPING!

it does make you laugh though.

Doesnt bother me either format won as I dont even have a HD tv yet. Who needs physical media these days anyway? I have broadband and a hdd. Its all you need :)

My sexbox sits on his own antique table in the coldest part of the room covered when unused by a clean towel. Please do not mention those 4 letters when you talk about him, Thank You.

Annoyed about it? No. I own both consoles anyways so was never bothered which won. Im just glad I resisted temptation and didnt buy the HD-DVD player for the 360 last month.

Personally for me all the PS3 is missing on the multimedia end is perhaps:

Further support for other lossless audio
More folder options with placing of your files how and where you want them
Better Album thumbnail presentation (ipod or even media centre) style
Oh and MKV playback be great (whatever that is)

Apart from that it offers me everything my PC does for general multimedia.

I bought my 360 for the games and have never been disappointed. I didn't buy the HD-DVD add on as I was going to wait to see which format won at the end of the day. I'm still holding off buying a PS3 till some good exclusives come out. I'm not too fussed about the blu-ray side of it and since a lot of the games that are out on the PS3 are also out on the 360 I don't see the point in buying another games console yet.

Also I'd be after an IR port as I use a Harmony 525 to control everything (incl. the 360 media center).
